got any examples from released tracks

    isnt this a snippet

It might sound crazy, but I always felt like he dipped into that Kiss Land lyrical bag a little bit in this track

i just dont think hes as strong of a writer as he used to be

i think max martin helped him achieve a level of success he couldnt reach without him but i also believe it ultimately stunted my favorite parts of his music pre-2015

yea i guess its "not for me" anymore but i still feel like its a bit more then that

Dawn FM is his best written album

Yeah, I always consider Kiss Land this album with his best lyrical content tbh.

(I'm a fan of both Trilogy & Pop Abel)

    Best concept: Dawn FM

Best concept & best written: Dawn FM
    Best sonically: Kiss Land

Kiss Land is one of the most unique sonic landscapes ever put on an album, I’ve still never heard anything quite like it

I’d personally take Kiss Lands writing intricacy over Dawn but he’s a much more concise writer nowadays and I definitely prefer the short and sweet verses to the drawn out way he used to write

It’s a literal movie sonically, but a pop album. It’s experimental, it’s still dark, but it’s pop and storytelling.

I can’t wait to see what of this he brings back for this album.

i didnt revisit this one bc i was obsessed with is there someone else lol

it does has elements of pretty and the first half of KL i hear what ur saying

its good, i dont love it but its def a good one.

again i dont hate his new stuff, i just think i preferred his pop music prior to collaborating with max and i believe his ethos changed when they first began working with each other.

i think OPN really began to bring out the best of him again. dont break my heart is sick and some of the synth work on here is the best ive heard in his career

heres my thing right, ive said this on here before

hes stuck between art house hero and one of historys biggest pop stars

i feel like he has a commercial commitment to being this big pop star that puts him in a position that certain creative decisions are compromised for the sake of creating global pop hits that sound and play well in arena's and airpods.

you can't have a singular creative vision like you see and hear in the mixtapes and kiss land when you're trying to appease a wider audience and have much grander financial obligations.

by no means has he become less talented, quite the contrary. i just feel strongly that if he wasn't one of the most streamed artists in history, he'd be able to execute a tighter more coherent sound, rather than a pallate of 80's homages

years ago i talked about how blood orange takes the sounds of the 80's by focusing on using the a***og equipment from that era, but created his own unique take on it through his ambitious and delicately crafted songwriting.

i think blood orange just does those homages and callbacks better than abel does and it makes me wish he got out of that 80s revivalism phase and entered into more creative territory

when you hear he arrange wanderlust all himself just by using his voice like mj's home demo's, i knew he was one of them ones fr

yea def agree to disagree, i normally like short and concise but i feel like his storytelling ability was more vivid when they were more "drawn out"

How do you feel he’s still compromising his artistic ambitions?

After Hours and Dawn FM are two of the most creatively focused and honed in pop albums of the 21st Century, he hasn’t really sacrificed anything for commercial appeal since Starboy

i think tbe first tracks in kiss land until live for is perfect no bullshit

adaptation to love in the sky gets me everytime and i think encapsulates perfectly "the weeknd" persona

a lot of the raunchy songs after this felt like cosplay to me compared to this
