from what we've heard so far, it sounds real good. even the mike track (hold your heart). cause wake me up is max martin, opn and run away is prolly max too and that ain't being touched by mike on mixing

I was randomly rereading the Variety AH interview yesterday where he actually spoke on this:

Is there a reason like that why there’s so much echo on your voice in the first two songs on “After Hours”? Are you intentionally obscuring the lyrics?

I didn’t really think about that. I’m not an intellectual so I can’t really explain some of the things I do — it’s just emotional. On “Alone Together” I don’t even want you to hear what I’m saying — it’s more about the sound, you know what I mean? On some of Michael Jackson’s best songs, I don’t know what the f— he’s saying, it’s about how he’s saying it. For “Alone Again” it’s about the beat, the melody, the feeling, the sonics, it’s like some Cocteau Twins sh– — Sings “I don’t know if I can be alone again.” If you know I’m saying that, nothing else matters. But on “Scared to Live” and the next few songs, I want you to hear what I’m saying. I’m telling a story.

i don't really have a problem with drowned out vocals on there. they are on just like 3-4 songs. the rest is as crisp as it comes. my only problem with that project in that metric is snowchild and scared to live. alone again im 50/50 cause i love the vevo version but the OG is incredible too

those tracks have moments with the most reverb where it drowns out his annunciation and just becomes a muddy collection of low mid or mid high frequencies squashed with the synths. No reason for an utter sound bed just because it “sounds cool” (aka illangelo used too many plugins)
