It sounds like he might being saying “Bes mam” in Amharic in the beginning of the chant. Makes sense too.

From Google: “Bes mam” is an Amharic expression that’s similar to “oh my gosh”. It’s a more polite and sensitive way to say “oh my God” because it uses the word “gosh” to avoid saying God’s name in vain. The expression is based on the Christian blessing “Be seme Ab”, which translates to “In the name of the Father”.
