Idk. Pop music is kinda completely over the synth stuff right now. It’s all country & indie folk stuff dominating the charts at the moment. If another huge era is what he wants with his next album, he’s gonna have to drastically switch up the sound
he's the trendsetter, not the one doing what's popular. gotta shake up the industry soundscape again

That sound is not shaking up the industry in 2027, it already had it’s revival this decade
I agree he could be the one leading the next change in sound, but it can’t be the synth stuff again

synths are used in 90% of music
and i said he's gonna shakeup the soundscape with a new sound, i didn't say he's gonna shake it up by doing 80s synth pop again

You know what I mean by synth stuff man, don’t be dense
Yes synths are used in 90% of music, but what The Weeknd has been making for all of the 2020s can described as different variants of synth-pop

yeah ok bro

Blinding Lights have been copied so many times by other artists it's crazy
On top of my mind:
Harry Styles - As It Was
Zara Larsson - Can't Tame Her
The whole synth discussion annoys me... I have heard people calling TOKYO for Synthpop/80's pop... Makes me feel like im living in a different dimension
Do you guys think its still possible for him to gain a third musical peak just in terms of success?
when he reached his first one (2015-2016) with BBTM/Starboy most thought that would be the biggest he'd be, but then he managed to to follow it up with an even bigger run in 2020-2021 (After Hours/Superbowl)
It'll be an extremely tough act to do imo, but if anyone can it would be him
I have no doubts about the music though, he's too talented, I'm sure he'll still deliver quality as usual
I don’t think it’s impossible, just very highly unlikely. The sound of the next project would have to be drastically different from any of his output this whole decade. With HUT it became clear that the general public lost interest in the sound of the new trilogy (and The Idol pushing away a subset of casual fans), no matter how well packaged and executed it was.
yeah ok bro
I don't get why you do this every time someone says the word "synths" lmao
After Hours, Dawn FM, and Hurry Up Tomorrow, while all different variations of the sound, can all be described as synth-pop albums
That doesn't mean all three albums sound the same, but they all exist under the same umbrella (the same way Die Lit, Rodeo, and FUTURE don't sound the same but all three albums exist under the umbrella of trap music)

The only tracks that are actually synthpop is Blinding Lights and Gasoline, HDIMYLM and Don't Break My Heart... Maybe Every Angel Is Terrifying too..
I swear Wikipedia and this new generation got synthpop f***ed up... Trying to label anything with a synth line as Synthpop... With that logic then everything is Synthpop because it's impossible to find music that doesn't contain a synth sound.
None of the three albums sound the same... Not even if you compare the Synthpop tracks... Blinding Lights is a nod to A-HA and Gasoline is a nod to Depeche Mode, completely different bags.
The closest you can compare in similarities between the albums is Sacrifice and Wake Me Up both being from the same cloth of Thriller, that's IT

I quite literally said in the post you replied to that the albums do not sound the same
I don't get why the word "snyths" triggers this section so much man
After Hours, Dawn FM, and Hurry Up Tomorrow DO NOT sound the same, but they can all be referred to as different variations on synthpop music
It's a very broad subgenre

yeah im sorry but that's just not true

It's completely true

That was part wasn't for you but because the argument is always followed up with that they all sound the same and sre just 80s and synthpop... But then you went ahead and called the trilogy for synthpop and proved my point

The 2020s trilogy is mostly synth-pop music in the same way that the 2011 trilogy is mostly alternative R&B music
I seriously don't get why this section gets so offended about this

Maybe because you are labeling the music wrongly ?
I started my career in the early 00s in a Synthpop band so that's why I have a very strong opinion on it, I don't speak for the rest of the section

I'm not labeling anything incorrectly, you're assuming that me calling it a synthpop trilogy means that I think every single song that exists on all three albums is synthpop. Nobody said that.
Synthpop is a broad subgenre in the same way that trap music is a broad subgenre
there are 2 synth pop tracks on after hours, 1 heavily synthwave-y, and 1 new wave track.
HUT has just 3 lol
dawn fm is til this day the only project he made that really explores synth-pop and all its different influences, eras and quirks.

Why do y'all treat synthpop like a slur in here?
if you want to name everything that has synths synth pop and then turn around and say "no actually i don't mean that" then i dunno what point you are trying to make, you're just wrong

Yes every song with synths is synthpop, that's exactly what I'm trying to say
My favorite synthpop songs are Sao Paulo, Snowchild, and Reflections Laughing

What genre would you call each of the albums?
