I liked In Your Eyes actually. Yes it's cheesy 80s style with the smooth jazz sax but I guess it seemed self-aware to me and fit the theme of "after hours". it's a little absurdist but so is the film he's paying homage to.
Thrice aka the one that hates literally everything The Weeknd while also being an a****** about it lol
scared to live has been one of my least played since it came out but I've been playing it a lot lately. it's better than I gave it credit for. still think the worst stretch of after hours (tho it's not bad) is hardest to love-snowchild. I don't hate any of those songs but they don't seem that necessary or fitting of the theme.
We can't beat this guy he posted a fan edit from an 8k follower account hes not serious
lmao starboy has a consistent theme and deep cuts are still getting streamed while bbtm is the opposite. bbtm doesn't know what it wants to be

lemme reiterate since my other comment didn't really make sense. starboy knows what it wants to be, a disco revival album like 24k or RAM, and it does it very well. the sound of the album is very evident compared to bbtm. bbtm is sorta like a playlist with no consistent sound at all, it's just a mess and while i do like a lot of the songs on the album it doesn't work thematically. both of the albums don't have a consistent theme like after hours does, but starboy is definitely a more cohesive piece of work compared to bbtm @Undisclosed
okay im gonna say it
tonight

Ahh okay I see what you mean. I guess personally going off of albums like Kiss Land and After Hours (even MDM), it's easy to see how cohesive and fluid an Abel album can be, and tbh I tend to just lump BBTM and SB together as one in the same because those are definitely 2 of his weakest.
When you compare the 2 however I can clearly see the theme you mention, although even then personally I feel like it's a scattered version of a cohesive album if that makes sense. Like I feel like the tracks could be ordered a bit better to sound cohesive even if that's not really the case. It feels all over the place but like you said still has somewhat of a consistent theme.

also 24K is more funk revival than disco lol can't really think of any disco songs on that record
