How y’all feeling about Best Friends by now though???
Tbh I had it ranked waayyy at the bottom but something clicked for me the past couple of days and now it’s one of my favorites
It’s so different from anything he’s ever made
To me it was love at first listen.
Imo one of his most RnB songs. Massari, Belly, and RnB's greats used to make this kind of songs in early to mid 2000s.
These kind of songs with uneasy, or badass, or sad vibe instrumental, and with smooth vocals.
A love letter/tribute to the songs of a previous era when mainstream caressed RnB and many musicians aimed to make a good track of this sound/kind.
It's as if Abel got tired of hearing fans "he's washed out, juno etc every year give him RnB awards but he USED TO make RnB songs, not anymore, now it's all mainstream pop, music with no longetivity, blah blah blah"
(And while some of the above is/was true) it's as if Abel said, "okay b****es, u want RnB? I'll show u RnB, I'll make a deep cut, a song that maybe won't sell well in the mainstream, but I'll make it as if I was active in 2003. Lemme call my G DaHeala real quick and cook this b****"
I remember when he said he admired kendrick for doing it on TPAB and he wish he could too
he said sometimes he does in the form of the screams on false alarm for example or the drums
Thats not what he said lmfao
He literally said he cant do it like him and he respects the route he take, and that he sometimes puts a different energy in the vocals(like in False Alarm)
I think Less Than Zero has suffered from being the last “track” on the album because it still hasn’t clicked for me
I think it’ll be like Save Your Tears/In Your Eyes where it randomly hits like three months later
To me it's one of his best album closers
To me it's one of his best album closers
Tears In The Rain is perfect, Valerie is just stunning, Until I Bleed Out is sick and twisted and emotional…all his closers are strong, I wonder how this’ll stand the test of time

only Angel is weak imo
Unrelated, but how the f*** did 'One Right Now' with Post Malone flop?
That s*** slaps
it's the definition of mid

Gasoline, Sacrifice and Best Friends are the type of sounds I immediately realized I wanted Dawn FM to sound like on the first listen lol

lets put it this way — they wouldve been better served putting this out instead and calling it a day rave.dj/o-MSmHNcCko7kw
Less Than Zero - you’re about to die, you’re thinking back on everything that’s happened in your lifetime and accepting the fact you were a faulty individual and you’re probably not going to make it to heaven
Phantom Regret - Jim straight up tells you you’re not going to heaven
Probably my favorite album closers of him ever
Just listened to it on the last few minutes of this weekend. I was a little distracted I think this warrants another listen. Loved the sounds and vibes, didn't focus much on the lyrics. I love the aesthetics, Jim Carrey is one of my favorite actors ever. I viewed this album like the bad ending to Eternal Sunshine
You can kick me
Kick me to the curb
It's okay, baby
I promise that I felt worse
Back then, I was starry eyed
And now I'm so cynical
Baby, break me
Kick me to the curb
