Overall you raise some interesting points.
But I don't know, when the man that made Trilogy, say "I recorded some really sad tracks and scrapped them" something doesn't sit well with me.

I know him for a proud singer.

By the way, for the first sentence in your post, you ask me "why?", and I ask you "why not?" Let him put the tracks out. Digital ear streaming will have minimum costz, it's not like he has to print 100'000 vinyl/CDs, spend top dollar in physicals to provide the fans a way to listen and hear if they like it or not. Let us fans decide. Especially when you, mr. motherfucking Starboy, know damn well fans are asking you sequels of your sad projects. (Remember when he addressed the "no sequels in the near future" / " no sequels to albums, the only exception being Kiss Land")
Plus, another loved and respected RnB/Soul goliath, Seal, had a similar story when he composed one of the most beautiful songs: Kiss from a Rose -- he was EMBARRASED of the song, so he put it away, until a friend producer

After writing the song, Seal felt "embarrassed by it" and "threw the tape in the corner". Seal did not present it to producer Trevor Horn until the recording sessions for Seal II.
