FriesI get what you mean, I'm definitely a Trilogy fan, I like this new album but he's been dabbling in 80s stuff for over 5 years now, it's not particularly new for him anymore, and it's a sound that's been done a lot for over a decade
When Bowie did Krautrock, Krautrock was actually new and it was cool to bring it to the masses, here Abel's bringing more 80s-influenced synthpop to an audience who is familiar with it from other artists as well as his previous work
Either way the album's good and has some of his best pop material, the outro's beautiful
This is a good point but also you said he’s been “dabbing” in the 80s and yeah he was testing the waters at the beginning of that 5 year period and now he’s gone full into it. I remember him saying something about not having the ability or tools to make the music he’s making now back then and that’s why for me this full blown 80s thing is dope cause it shows how he’s grown and perfected his craft with it. I expect him to take another turn into something else on the next one
