Guys I can literally pull up the track list, Credits and interviews with other producers who worked on the album to show who did what on almost all the songs

I think it’s cool Ye surrounded himself with elite level producers and musicians to put the album together. Clearly he had a vision bigger than what most other artists have and it shows. I agree I would like to see more of that

But again as far as the actual production on the album, The beats. He did very little

Regardless if this is the case or not this is still very impressive and a testament to his direction idk why this is treated like a knock on his talent

Whatever album’s production you’re talking about, Ye “did very little” bc he’s BEEN hands on enough producing entire albums himself (it gets tiring/counterproductive and restricts what could be the better end product just to want to make all your own beats from scratch and the listener doesnt really care, you can slave away and then the Lil Babys still get all the big songs fed to them)

to get to the point he can outsource his ideas and they already know the sound he’s crafted in the past which they literally shape their output around like an extension of his mind.
. Basically like a creative CEO ie. Elon Musk who sleeps at Tesla with the team overnight fixing problems and maximizes the output which otherwise wouldnt be there by inspiring the team, theyre basically extra hands that he directs bc obviously it’s more efficient than building cars with just him in a garage

as opposed to a Lil Baby type who literally will never give af about wanting to learn the intricacies of the entire sound that makes him rich, would never even want to touch FL Studio bc it’s easier not to, has no intention in adding anything and comes in with none of his own drafts just is handed a finished product every song
basically the antithesis to creativity, let’s say like a s***ty manager who got lucky to even get his position and just spams the same product his nepotism showed him to do with NO intention on innovating who just sits in his office in Dubai getting rich, wouldn’t even know what to do IF he had extra hands to work with bc not passionate or technical enough to have done it himself at any point

Like this is Ye’s superpower he’s literally one of if not the best at sourcing and delegating

Absolutely not a knock to his talent as an artist

But let’s not give him all praise and leave out the producers who played a major role in putting it together

    How so?

I’m not disagreeing, I just wanna know exactly why it was in a different realm

He was just far more involved in the creation process than a normal artist would.

Like it wasnt just a matter of picking beats from elite producers, he would picked the base of the beat then pretty much go through multiple different iterations of that beat. Like he's the one that decide to the use the king crimson sample for power. He was removing and adding layers to the base beats, which is why he has co production on most of the songs

Then we have him getting feature verse. Normally someone would just send the beat and ask for feature. Ye was directing the features on what he wanted from them. Both ross and push said they never had anyone tell them to rewrite a feature before till ye

Then we have the composition of the songs and the song structure, the layering of sounds and picking which instruments should go where. Deciding the way he wanted the album to be mixed and mastered, etc.

  • Dec 25, 2024

Every song on MBDTF has gone through at least 5 iterations of changes before the final version. He was very hands on with his vision and direction on that album

You keep repeating this point like it means something and you wonder why I laughed at you.

None of this matters cause you weren’t there nor does it sound like you have ever been in a studio environment before.

Are you giving Rick Rubin this same dismissive energy?

Tell me exactly what “directing” means

Finding a sample and telling No ID to make a beat out of it?

Being given a beat by Bink and telling Mike Dean to put guitar solo on it?

I’m not saying Kanye didn’t put any effort into the album. I’m saying he didn’t do much production himself and the “he’s a sonic director!” s*** is goofy. Every artist that makes an album does that lol

We should be giving props to the actual producers who made the stuff. To this day people still think Ye produced Devil In A New Dress. That’s why Bink kinda snapped about it a couple years back

Why do you keep telling me I’ve never been in a studio environment when I have? I understand the process of bouncing ideas around very well

I keep repeating that because I’m just talking about who made the f***ing beats on the album man. Kanye gets all the credit for everything his name is on and the actual beat makers and musicians responsible for the music get left out. Kanye’s ideas to add in samples, Layers, Beat switches, outros etc. are great but mean absolutely nothing if the producers he was working with couldn’t do it

Bink threw a tantrum about it a couple years back because he made one of the greatest beats oat and no one gave a f*** about him and gave Ye all the credit. Hudson Mohawke also said he did most of the work on FSMH but basically got no recognition because Kanye had metro slap a hi hat and his tag on it. Metro himself confirmed this and basically said Kanye just wanted his tag on it

Do you know Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning or do you know Elon Musk? I get what you mean, but that’s just how these things go towards a greater outcome. Everyone playing their role and not getting mad they not the star. It does hurt tho to not get your credit, but that check in the mail, your percentage and the unlimited access to the space should be enough but idk. I function differently in this conversation

Nah I get that but I also understand why it’s frustrating

Imagine majorly contributing to a literal masterpiece and no one even brings up your name or gives you any credit

Tell me the last time you heard someone play FSMH and say “man Hudson Mohawke killed this”

Nah but fr I could pull up multiple Kanye beats that are just chopped and looped samples

The Weeknd - Tell Your Friends
    Rocky - Jukebox Joints
Pusha T - The Games We Play & MPA

Also if you genuinely think that’s all Al does then you clearly ain’t listened to him
