Nov 9, 2020·1 replyUIPwell yeah, Cudi as an amateur took the reigns from his label and producers and did most of that s*** himself and that’s exactly how the album sounds. that’s also part of why i’ve loved it since it dropped, it’s such a singular project.
i don’t really look at it as a downgrade, just a hard turn into left field for him as an artist

idk i think it’s still got some great hooks like Red Eye, Just What I Am, and Immortal, but i’m 99% sure Cudi purposefully strayed from focusing on hooks on the album cuz around that time he was tired of being referred to as just a hook guy.
a few songs on the album don’t even have hooks

I did this in the Travis thread so I'll do it here, I apologize to all my cudi stans I was never a fan even tho I would defend him from CLB niggas who take cheap shots. Currently gentrifying his sound and I finally get it. Plus I haven't heard anything otherwise but he seems to write all his own bars
