Does anyone else think the competition levels are bugged in THPS1?

I’m not the best player in the world so this could just be me but:

gets highest score yet
gets rated by judges lower than normal

Another attempt

gets highest score yet and posts a big number
Judges Score would have gotten me 2nd place any other round I’ve attempted tonight
Judges score gives 3rd this round

Nonsense. It’s like the better you do the harder it is to get 2nd

Not to even mention first
