Yeah with relisten it’s a pretty lowkey album
It’s like Angles through Comedown Machine filter
I know no one will get this but I do

bad decisions = is this it
I love how Julian just gets better with age, vocally especially
I wonder where he gets that inspiration from
He namedropped Good Vibrations in the last stream but it was more as a joke, I wouldn’t reach to say it comes from the Beach Boys

It's a pretty classic Strokes song with a flavor of New Order and i still find it enjoyable to some point but not a big fan of the Billy Idol interpolation on the chorus...
But Brooklyn Bridge is the one i find myself getting back to the most, so damn catchy

Well that’s we used to say about Darkness when that dropped too lol, therefore why I mentioned Angles, this crossover of traditional Strokes but with the late 70s and 80s synth flavor, this does that too

brooklyn is in my top 3 currently
very relatable content there
don't really mind the billy idol interpolation that much
It’s funny how the more their legacy moves on the more FIOTE becomes a reclusive album in retrospective

Thats a good question and It's hard to tell because it's all over the place ( in a good way ofc)
Sometimes tho he reminds me of more classical jazz singers like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby when he goes to lower ranges idk ahah maybe i'm tripping

Oh nah Julian is definitely into that, he is obsessed with Lou Reed and we all know he wasn’t a falsetto lol Julian definitely has an amazing modern crooner feel

I want new friends, but they don't want me
They're making plans while I watch TV

We talked about this way back how in hindsight FIOTE was Julian drifting from what made the Strokes and the reason why they broke up right there .. ever since they came back it has been musically balanced, one foot in retro Strokes and one foot onto the 80’s aesthetic
It’s like a compromise, little by little they perfected it and it paid off
To me Abnormal is the accumulation of that, and the Voidz being what the Strokes would’ve been if Julian went on with FIOTE style and the band members were cool with it
You gotta understand that even tho they’re in a great place now, it is because of all that
Way back during the hiatus and while making Angles it was violent within the band
Julian was highkey saying the shows were cash grab, I think their visions really clashed
That’s also why he made a solo album that was back then so far from what the Strokes were doing even tho today it would fit right in
But they’ve grown and come into good middle ground terms or at least Julian found his kick elsewhere enough to accept the Strokes legacy and what they originally brought and be confident with it

Oh yeah good catch, definitely can see it...
i think he also mentioned that Jim Morrison was a big one as well

Yeah I just can easily tell he picked on all of that type
So it’s interesting to try and pick where he gets the falsetto
I mean I know he liked Muse for a while but I doubt that still sticks with him today, does it? hey, maybe
