he's not condemning the south as a whole though lol.
Right, but the title doesn't reflect that lmao
Just say Atlanta instead of "the South". I still don't agree there, but it holds more water than the entire lower half of the United States across all of time being categorically ass lmfao

you just confirmed Pat has influence and none of the said influenced sound remotely as good as him soooooooo said impact would also be called not really good.
not good is a synonym for negative

A lot of great artists have influenced lesser artists though lmao. Wu-Tang Clan influenced Logic, DJ Screw influenced slow/reverb music, Dr. Dre influenced Eminem, Jay Z influenced HD, Kanye West influenced Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne influenced Drake, etc
Pat has also influenced a number of great rappers. Young Dolph, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, 21 Savage, etc, are all really great heirs to his legacy. He just also influenced, like, Blac Youngsta. Can't win em all

Alright take him out and replace him with Key Glock if you want. Point still stands
I was a big fan of 21 up to American Dream. After that he became ass but Savage Mode, Savage Mode II, and Without Warning slap
I love trap too, I just think it's tacky how it's become the only commercially viable sound for rap as a whole, let alone southern hip hop.
s*** has swallowed up any chance of mainstream rap going in a diff direction lol
I don't think the south made hip hop look easy to do, I think hip hop made hip hop look easy to do tbh lol
it's literally the bread and butter of the genre to create cool s*** w little means. the more (deceptively) easy it looks the better. what this means is constantly changing alongside the changing technology available to make music but this is a day1 principle maybe even a definition of the genre
I can't rock with this one, Eric.

Lil Wayne took this to a whole nother level though before Future and Thug even came through and crush the buildings lol if niggas remember the post A Milli era of rappers
Jay Cassidy Fab Jada Styles etc made it look effortless without everyone thinking they could do it lol
Wayne style is a gift and curse
CyHi said that lyrical rappers are all nerds now and there's truth to that
I think what Trap did was make that nonchalant "fuck rap" attitude seem cool and the intricate rhymes seem like tryhard s***
Nas, WuTang, DMX, LOX, State Property, Diplomats, etc. All were street niggas and gang bangers that still were about bars and loved hip-hop. That's what was lost
The real question is why does everyone in this thread discount the value of “party” music? What exactly makes it lesser than lyrical forms of rap? What exactly is wrong with making space for rappers that have a different skill set than a traditional lyricists? There is enough space for both. What are we talking about

When Party music became the ONLY music that mattered lmao
The problem has always been a lack of balance
Niggas used to rap hits saying deep s*** (Bigger Picture is trash) shoutout to Jadakiss Why
Like you could play a sociopolitical song by a yonkers nigga in the club TODAY and niggas would go up for it lol

What is inherently wrong with that type of music being popular? In nearly every genre the biggest hits/albums have been ones that are the most accessible to a general audience and or reflect the time in which they were made. Southern rap/trap fit that criteria perfectly when it initially blew up. Hence why it was so popular. Just because lyricists (temporarily) got a smaller slice of the pie doesn’t mean there were not amazing lyrical albums made during that period. As someone who simultaneously in the DIY punk/metal scene I’ll never understand hip hops obsession with popularity. Numbers are temporary. Quality is timeless.
Souther hip hop at its best is far and away the best form of hip hop for me so idc whatever slop has to come with it. I can just not listen, very simple
