I really love this show though lol, it's hard not to consider it in the upper echelon.
There's so many things I love about the show
The cinematography/directing work is just masterful really. So many camera shots in this show make the viewer, imo, wonder of the intent. Did they mean to linger on that moment for so long? what was the point? were they trying to tell us something or instead just faking us out. they do this so often it's so good
a pristine example of it was the grenade in the Soprano household. I dont believe I have seen that resurface yet.
secondly, the multi storylines. so much to wonder really. the middle eastern dudes, what's their slant? the Russians still in play. so many things.
lastly, how they tell the story. not every episode, but some have these mini stories within the larger picture such as the redevelopment of the North Ward. They weave this general idea of neighborhood gentrification and redevelopment into the main story in such an amazing, relatively speaking thought provoking way.
I actually don't f*** with the cinematography and directing at some points. There's random moments where the camera goes into slow motion or a freeze frame and it's like wtf was that?? Was that intentional?
An example of this is the last time Camilla sees AJ's guidance counselor that she f***ed while separated from Tony. As she's walking away, the scene just randomly freezes like credits are about to roll

Will have to refresh my memory on that scene but , i personally love it. they almost always feel intentional and make me think about what they were trying to get at.

Whenever I noticed moments like that, I tried to think "Why'd they put that in there??
" but couldn't come up with an answer. Felt totally random, always distracted me

its the only time in the show a transition like that is used and it catches you off guard and is why tv is an unserious medium but also why its fun they can just f*** around and it doesnt really matter like whoever is directing a tv episode doesnt matter thats why they let actors do it all the time

when Carm is over in france and the entire sort of issue over there is her bringing NJ over to Paris - While she enters the church, she notices and the camera focuses on a priest/pastor seemingly teaching students, and then a painter... Priest Techer Painter the three men she had thought and did do sexual things with. (can even make a connection to her being so enthralled over there and how she loved Furio for many of his rather uncorrupt italian ways of thought)
maybe im looking too deep into it, but everything feels purposeful.

for sure will dump all feelings here.
80th Episode. "Remember When"
Beansies account of Paulie is best in the entire show.
something along the lines of "you (Tony), the guys, and his image. That's all he's got"

Interesting episode.
can anyone point me to some write ups on the show?
How it touches on American Consumerism in the late 1990s and early 2000s is mainly what I am interested but anything that discusses the "deeper" meanings etc etc.

Coincidentally saw this article recommended to me by Google. Not even the creators of the show know what the point of that wipe was
