Help me understand the advantages

Never said anything about advantages, but it’s a completely natural thing to do. People compare books in a series with the other books, they compare a directors films with their previous films, they even compare this years CoD with last years. Why try to pretend like comparisons aren’t naturally occurring?

I don’t really believe it makes much sense to do because and artist’s art represents where they are at that point in time. Im just saying it’s a natural thing for humans to do. If an artist makes Project A and you consume it for years, then when Project B drops, you’re automatically going to compare to what you know the artist has put out before. It’s just human nature. Not saying it makes sense

You could very easily use production value and the ability of the artist to capture this time in their lives (whether it be the concept of the album, the layout, the beats, imagery, etc) to compare artists work in different eras

Kendrick Lamar's GKMC is not the same era as his DAMN, but you can compare and contrast the ability of Kendrick to capture the time period of GKMC and pretty much make it the setting of the album
