Ridiculously high peaks caused by this exact thing i'm talking about.. trends. Kendrick was/is seen as the messiah of rap/music by many, many people. Taylor is/was arguably the biggest US celebrity by a factor of like 3x. You're seen as "in" if you're a swiftie, you're seen as cool if you're a Kendrick fan. Disputing this would be crazy.

So when those two artists release new s*** people go crazy. But because they mostly aren't listening because they actually love the music, their hype/streams doesn't last. Whilst for Bad Bunny, Drake and Morgan it does. Because none of those artists have outside factors pushing them along.

Look at Morgan man lol. His peak has lasted like 3-4 years now. It's not gone down at all. That's what having an audience that's OBSESSED with the music gets you

btw you shouldn't discount how much effort taylor and kendrick put into physicals, vinyls, and playlisting to appear as if they were bigger than life. compared to drake who banks on the music to age well over time

The beef gave all of you niggas conspiracy brain

The simple answer is: Morgan Wallen makes more popular music in the 2020s than Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift (which is still debatable because Taylor’s daily streams are still higher than Morgan’s right now)

Streaming has completely brainwashed you niggas into thinking that if an artist isn’t averaging 8 billion streams a day then that means all of their hype is fabricated or overestimated

funnily enough MUSIC literally proves my point even more

Carti in 2024/2025 was literally the artist to listen to for everyone under 30. You were seen as "in" if you listened to him. It was a huge trend that literally fell off a cliff, because people realised at the end of the day, the music is ass.

The trend and obsession was with the idea of what Carti represents, not the reality of him as an artist.

I'll never understand how Carti managed to be seen as so cool for that period of time. It was really f***ing weird

Or, get this, Carti just dropped a heavily anticipated album that didn’t have longterm commercial success

Yeah I never said their hype is fabricated/overestimated. I said their audiences aren't as obsessed with the music compared to Drake/Morgan/Bad Bunny

Weeknd is another great example of exactly what I'm talking about lol. Barely anyone cares about that man on a celeb level. Drake has some celeb power to him. Weeknd has almost none. For The Weeknd his audience is almost entirely obsessed with just the music. Taylor's audience is very largely obsessed with Taylor, the human

kendrick’s next album is likely gonna be way less accessible too, meaning it’ll sell less than ICEMAN omg this war is never ending

all it takes is one "tv off" or luther level joint--not even nlu, not sure if anything kendrick does from this point will touch that lightning in a bottle again--but it's definitely possible to have an album of mostly less accessible music than gnx and one slap or sza or rihanna feature that goes #1 and shoots 1st week sales to the moon

Heavily anticipated because he became one of the biggest trends in overall music culture in the last 10 years, you're literally agreeing with me without realising it

The anticipation wasn't even because of his previous music blowing up either lol, it was literally just a cultural thing where the general public thought he was some insanely cool person that was about to do something actually special

I will say though: not that he or his team are going to particularly care or act as such, but I do think that the public pressure is on Kendrick to deliver at least one hit record with his next album. If not, the narrative around him is that he actually did need Drake’s name to boost his music commercially (which is a stupid as f*** narrative for a guy with Diamond records, but this is the era of discourse we exist in)
