My opinion is irrelevant to how stupid that take is. One of the worst trends in online discourse is people assigning the worst possible interpretation to something that’s probably totally unrelated.

Those lyrics could be about so many things and are about as open to interpretation as Thom’s lyrics usually are. Without him commenting “Israel” I would’ve never in a million years thought that was how someone would interpret that song. Social media outrage brainrot is so real.

These guys are literally some of my favorite musicians of all time, and even I think DGMS has some questionable lyrics.

Thom making a song with lyrics about criticizing someone else other than him is not a good look in combination with Jonny's ridiculous actions back in June.

Not saying it's certain or even intentional, the song could've been written prior to all the controversy about the way politicians bounce responsibility; who knows. But it's not great for that to be the first song released right after your writing partner plays in Israel and gets pissy and defensive about "silencing Jewish art" when people ask him to acknowledge dead Palestinians.

They may do a similar route with Foreign Spies where they do a 12" and don't release it digitally until the album.

We may be waiting another month before album preorders.
