We were asked to vote for macron to stop the far right and the first thing he did was ally with the far right on far right policies. Voting for a left wing coalition in 2024 led to a conservative prime minister being nominated

Protests in the past led to abortion being legalized, higher wages, anti racism laws, access to higher education being easier, now it’s mostly a lot of liberalization laws being dropped. Most of which coming from liberal EU directives that are contradictory with french values

A minority wants to change the system with a clear list of demands for a new constitution but now they just wait for a Melenchon presidency to make it happen tbh. The main motivation now is almost always to keep existing rights rather than profound system change. With of course the cost of living being the thing that makes the movement mainstream

It will get worse anyway because instead of funding public services like school and healthcare tax revenue is going more and more towards pensions and subsidies for companies to keep costs low, both things that would be too unpopular to change, and that these protests are ironically in favor of. Also more EU integration is inevitable since the french elite only dreams of one thing and it’s to run a fake country they can extract money from while german bureaucrats do the actual work

Add to that the behavior of politicians. When the Paris governor was told about the state of public schools she laughed and called it fake news. When a leftist politician asked why VAT taxes were being hijacked to fund tax breaks for big companies rather than social security they basically said it’s none of our business. Most people just ask for some accountability from these people rather than a whole system change, and they realize dialogue is just impossible now

You might also get the wrong idea of the energy of the protests because the cops strategy now is to attack first even if the protest is peaceful and led by normies. Really terrorize the masses and at the same time let iconic buildings get attacked to make the movement unpopular. Masked cops loot, burn s***, attack firefighters and let official buildings get raided to justify violent repression against protests led by old people and kids
