boring answer i know but if you want to get into the XC series, i'd say start with the first one and play them chronologically
experiencing the whole lore of that universe chronologically is peak
XCX is super good but it could give you a weird impression of what the series is
and let me tell you, every XC game is big on sci-fi
Salute. Gonna start with XC1. Also, for some reason I thought this series was more of a high fantasy with a slight sci fi twist

yes and no, and definitely not hard fantasy
i'd call it sci-fi core with a fantasy coat
but it's not really apparent before playing

I don’t think XCX is a bad start but I think it’s best to play it after XC1
XC1, XCX, XC2, XC3

it's true that XCX is more disconnected from the numbered trilogy, but taking into consideration the expansions for XC2 and XC3 (both are great and worth checking out), along with the definitive edition of XCX, there are some cool tie in's and callbacks between XCX/XC2/XC3
this all really only matters if you're really vibing with the overarching story and themes tho. it's fine to play it after the main trilogy too
