I liked that Gambino put him on a beat you’d never hear him on, wasn’t as monotonous as his usual s***

A let down

Atavista- I guess it’s cool to get a full song so I can’t be too mad at this one. I liked the other intro though

Algorithm- I don’t hate the effects on the verses but did he also re record the verses? Lyrics like the “we know we gon die” part don’t hit as hard. The chorus does come through clearer which benefits it I think. Overall it’s okay, not a big improvement or downgrade

Time- I always felt like this song worked well with the rough mix it seemed to fit the drums, nothing to really hate here though pretty solid from what I remember

Psilocybae- the new mix makes Donald’s verse even more immersive and ad libs and background noises supporting the verse are clearer, I’m here for this. Probably should’ve removed 21 if we’re making changes and cuts, @edumist was right he doesn’t need to be here. But I like this

To Be Hunted- I think the clarity on this mix helps the song shine more

Sweet Thang- RUINED Just such a weird choice to have summer walker sing the pivotal lines of the song. It strips it of all the meaning and weight from that moment to me. And it’s not even like she sings it better than he did. L

Why Go To The Party- So ruined that it ruins the entire album for me. F*** this. was one of my favorite songs on here. These past few tracks is where it really fell apart but this is when I lost all hope and interest in this version

Human Sacrifice- cool addition, can’t be mad at it

The Violence- it was ok I was kind of over the album at this point because I know I’m not revisiting it. A couple weird changes or instrumental things and then the prominent kid singing but whatever

Final Church- RUINED, doesn’t hit the same

After a decent start this s*** got pretty bad. I’m glad I realized the original is still on AM because I was tight before that. OG version still one of my favorite recent albums, if not my favorite of the 20s

I don’t mind the new mixing, but idk why he changed what seemed to be a seamless transition from psilocybae to To be haunted, to now it just stopping
also cutting the best parts of why go to the party is crazy too

You're the only one I've seen that rightfully brings up how weird it is that Summer Walker sings the climax of Sweet Thang even though it's supposed to be the guy singing in the song saying thank you to his lady for the first time in a long time/ever.

This has to be up there with the most unnecessary re releases of all time right. Cus wtf was actually the point instead of lowkey ruining a bunch of songs. He did basically nothing to repackage it to be more palatable which is what I thought was the point

It takes that whole meaning and context away it was a pretty powerful moment before. Now it feels like it just randomly cuts to the woman perspective and she’s thanking him, for what? Such a bizarre choice it’s like he just wanted the feature.

The whole song built to that moment smh.

Listened to the new version on the day of release and went back to my local files for the OG lol.

And the cleaner mixes might have helped too if it weren’t for the unnecessary changes. The actual musical changes are mostly frustrating

I felt like Time did sound more palatable though if he just took the cleaning up approach instead of actually changing songs this would’ve been fine

Probably made the change so that To Be Hunted can standalone as a single better. Which is fine because I do like how it starts with its own lead in on Atavista more. However what's odd is that Psilocybae still ends as if it is going to transition into the old version of To Be Hunted.

New mix really is fantastic in the car and on a good sound system forreal. As cliche as it sounds, it really does sound like I'm listening to a new album with the newly added nuances in vocal FXs and production.

It's s*** that is present on Atavista that wasn't on 3.15.20 which really makes 3.15.20 sound like the incomplete version. Not that it's bad, but when you really start hearing/noticing the changes made you start to fully understand why Donald felt it necessary to remake the album.

One thing that's extremely confusing though...the Atavista version of Final Church's vocals are extremely low and he's practically buried beneath the production. Does matter what I'm listening on, car stereo, home stereo system, earbuds, whatever the vocals are low. Very bizarre.

realizing i’m a hypocrite bc i think the 21 verse on Psilocybae is perfect even though it has jack s*** to do with the song but i don’t rock w Nudy’s verse for the same reason

pretty sure donald's more strapped in for Bando -- and he just put this little snack together for us fans before we get the real meal in ~july.

I wouldn’t say youre a hypocrite lol there’s levels to it, I do feel like 21 is kind of unnecessary but he doesn’t take away from the song the way Nudy part does. At least 21 is on the same beat and actually makes a decent transition point to the outro. The beat switch to Nudy just doesn’t work and feels like a hat on a hat

For real though if he wasn’t “locked in” on this then he should’ve just done a new mix, added the extra tracks, and not bothered to do these questionable musical changes to the existing ones.

He seems like the kind of guy who can multitask and takes his time so I feel like he did actually put a lot of effort and thought into finishing this even if it was between making a new album

Sigh this s*** is irredeemable for me, but I hope Bando is as good as the title suggests. I hope it’s really conceptual

yeah man, i feel you. it was pretty deflating but felt like a good ending to a 4 year joruney. personally, this project bookended two kinda major events in my life that are weirdly connected (outside of f***ing COVID) so it's always gonna have my heart. i've been spinning it nonstop, aware of my issues with it but it is what it is.

but beyond all of that -- he'll make up for it with the visuals/music videos, which i feel like he's been hyper focused on. no content for AML and then coming back with 100% content for Atavista is a treat.

Maybe with time I can let go of my gripes and enjoy the clean mixes. Also hope there’s a big visual or multimedia component to Bando. My dream is BTI level concept and world building but with the musical greatness of the last two albums

On the topic of AML content don’t forget the VR experience. I thought that was amazing

Yep. The music videos for LFBF was shot back in December 2023. Doesn't seem like it, but that's a long time for a video to be shot ahead of an album release.
