the common sentiment around boston is that devers is in the wrong here.
idk. i'm not gonna go full on siding with devers but i can see his side of it. he didnt want to DH he wanted to play third. he gets on board with DHing but now they want him to play first and switch to a new position mid season? mind you, he has never played a single game at 1st base in the majors nor minors

Tyler Soderstrom went from playing first base to left field a couple of weeks ago with no experience because of a rookie call up
S*** happens

yea which is why i'm not saying devers is totally right. i love that a guy like mookie betts can play 2B, RF, CF, SS.
big power hitters typically dont play that s***. it's not just devers. when youre carrying more weight/strength maybe u are more prone to injury especially on the corner infield covering the bag. if he gets a knee injury or some s***, it's not good for anyone.
i just dont think its as cut and dry as everyone is making it seem

I think this is a bad comparison
How so?
one is a player making the minimum with less than a full season under his belt
the other received a $300 million+ contract extension while playing one position his whole MLB career
instead of hitting the free market at age 26 he signed that deal just to be replaced by an older player two seasons later, I don’t really fault the guy for not wanting to play first base
personally, of course i would like devers to switch to 1b. hell, switch him to 1b for the rest of his career. why not? it's the easier position to play (theoretically). take your power hitter and plop him at 1b, while keeping your DH role flexible. sounds great!
but this is from the mind of a dumb fan, which is why i'm resistant to join the lynch mob against devers for his comments

I see both sides, everyone wants their players to be “gamers”. Not everyone is the athlete that Mookie is to be able to be so versatile tho.
And like you said Devers would have to learn a whole new position.. in May lol. They should’ve told em while tryna push him into DH, maybe Include reps at first atleast. Telling to put the guy you paid 300 mil to play third.. put ya glove away.. and then take it back out ain’t it. This is a new FO too correct? This GM didn’t sign Raf, the energy from him makes me think they haven’t been seeing eye to eye for some time now.
