Yeah this is basically what a few of us have been saying in the pages prior. They've just not effectively established the dangers in this world and that's why there is no real tension in any of the 'action' scenes.
his TLDR is right here
your message itself is a subliminal
. you highlighted one part of his post read the rest of it where he clearly says it isn't about them defeating the horde or swarms or raiders themselves its about tension. He says it right there in the SAME POST . He said it to you nicely and respectfully.
"There is a vast difference between showing us a horde and our protagonists actually taking on dangers themselves. I'm not calling for them to take on that horde, or armies of infected, or raiders every episode. But they are not doing a good job at conveying that joel at least is capable and hardened, and willing to commit the necessary violence to keep Ellie safe in this world. And vice-versa, that Ellie is understanding exactly what the stakes are like in the world outside QZ's, and adapting accordingly. That is not being portrayed effectively."
"They got dealt with in 2 seconds and somehow Joel had been stabbed. There was no actual fear factor whatsoever. "
danger isn't just "omg kathleen had those people killed this world has high stakes goodness gee wilikers" "kathleen is saying her manifesto to sam oh gosh I hope she doesn't finish reading her manifesto and kills him" lmfao. Like what Dwindling sun is saying in that entire post is tension. The feeling of the raiders chasing ellie or still shooting at them and she is struggling to escape. Joel Shooting while he is bleeding. Anything of "damn what if they don't make it away from the raiders".
BRO OPENED MICROSOFT PAINT
. I say this as someone who has accepted the game and show are entirely separate vibes and stories to me,but what Dwindlingsun and some others are saying makes perfect sense and they don't just want rambo. To dilute their point down to one sentence out of the 8 paragraphs they typed
And it wasn’t Microsoft paint. You can highlight messages instantly when you take a screenshot on iPhones. #ad
I certainly felt like after such a massive emotional blowout there was more room for them to bond before what happens to Joel and the desperate lengths Ellie's about to go to keep him alive. That love isn't quite feeling established to me.
Would have been a nice opportunity to actually have them deal with infected hands-on (considering those scenes have been so sparse). And then it would have actually allowed them to establish raiders as something to be feared. As opposed to what we got, which was just a few uncoordinated guys with pipes. Plus in those scenes they could have had Ellie actually getting somewhat involved in the combat, which is important for her character development, especially by this point.
Plus, in the game I recall Joel feeling a lot more frustration and worry about whether they were actually ever going to find Fireflies. They were trawling through building after building for any clue. Here it was near instant and then just immediate acceptance of 'oh they've moved on, that's okay, no worries'. No acknowledgment of the massive toll this journey is taking. in the game there's so much relief and catharsis when we do actually catch up with the Fireflies. There's so much mystique built up around them. I don't see that feeling at all the same in the show.
like his post have been well developed and respectful
I mean I’d be down for more content and 2 hour episodes don’t get me wrong
give me the extended cut of each episode
Nope it clearly says he believes there is no tension because they don’t establish a feeling of danger in the show which is objectively not true.
you got to read his whole point about danger though. Some characters that don't even get names being executed by some character they made up from the show isn't the tension or anything really thats just numbing
. Kathleen executing a bunch of civilians that play no part in the show isn't danger really. Seeing a random black woman and her child on a caravan and knowing they are the bones on the side of the road isn't really danger or tension he is talking about there. There is no need to go rambo to see Joel and Ellie coordinated take out 4 human beings s*** or 2 infected by mixing stealth, bottle, wooden plank and limited amount of bullets to feel the tension and action.

They have gotten through most of the season without a level of tension that exist throughout all of the game and helps convey the desperateness of the story. The desperation. Them just walking in there seeing " oh map says salt lake city" with 0 enemies in the college and for some illogical reason going for hand to hand rather than shooting a man dead while respectable looks silly. Especially cause in remainder episodes they will have to go from "amateur" killers who have managed a no hit playthrough to absolute battle hardened warriors.
I get y'all thought a medkit moment would look silly ( even though Bill and Frank had a medkit moment lol). Having them have some form of loss throughout the episodes would help. I mean I guess they loss the weapons in episode 4. Light tension with him getting choked out but even that scene was conveyed kind of sloppily. I have acknowledged action isn't their strong suit or even tension or conflict but I UNDERSTAND those that want that to help the plot and show. Even the kid infected turning back and getting called home by the horde right after getting Kathleen rather than chasing after them and they escape , dodge or shoot.
I think with coming episodes ( at least 8 and 9 there will be more tension there kind of has to be )

Do better next time
Haven’t kept up with the show in weeks but I don’t think these complaints should take away from the quality of the show. Maybe the quality of the adaption but again I’ve only seen like 2 episodes
