Mar 8, 2023·2 repliesHaroldsChickenI was moving faster on second half just playing each day after work then marathoned the final portion because I wanted to wrap it up. Gameplay slightly repetitive but good design. I was playing on moderate with some changes like no Hud and stuff. I think higher difficulty would give it more urgency but when I originally did highest difficulty start I put it down because things would feel more cheap or unresponsive especially when it came to stealth.
Maybe permadeath, newgame+ or grounded would care more. Gameplay loop just eventually as you said eventually more felt like an annoyance or "how can I cheese this" to get to the next safe cutscene than "whew I can't wait to stealth or kill all these people ".
Was a solid journey I don't hate it . Definitely was more stealth oriented than I originally thought. Story itself I didn't/ don't care about Joels death think its justified. Ellie I understand why she is mad but to me her dying to make the cure was always a risk I never thought "they just going to draw her blood and give her a medal. Of course they should have given her a choice though. Fireflies thrown in a little too late. Side characters partially work but don't blow me away. Feels as I said like maybe Ellie killing the side characters should have been more of a boss battle or at least done in gameplay not cutscenes(That is just me personally). overall though I liked it. Not my favorite game of all time but it justifies its existence
That's understandable. The game is significantly longer than the first one. At one point I did get in a mindset of wanting to wrap it up too because my expectations were a bit skewed (from the first one being short and also because I kept waiting for something dramatic to happen so I could pinpoint the controversy to, lmao).
Playing with no HUD is pretty hardcore. I honestly don't think you'd enjoy permadeath/new game+/grounded then - it'd feel even more tedious and more "how can I cheese this".
Idk if you're watching the show, but it feels like the Fireflies aren't all that important to Neil Druckmann, lol. Not enough spotlight in the show nor this game.
My issue with side characters is that they're not fleshed out enough for their deaths to mean anything other than the initial shock value

the game is just bloated at times because it touches on so many topics. Sometimes you kind of need to cheese as in its more fun to sneak past then use all resources to kill things that don't give you that much resources. I can tell the fireflies aren't important to him but to me they are a central part of the story and lore Vaccine doesn't mean s\*\*\* in game 2\. Joel gets instant redemption love at beginning of this game or Ellie just mad about the lying and life not meaning anything only to spend her life chasing that grief feeling. Game 1 when I ended I felt Joel a villain and was all for him being unhinged but game 2 starts with him being perfect besides lying as do the flashbacks and even him saving Abby. Like the game while addressing those that worship Joel also gave them more reasons to continue to worship him
I don't use listen mode and would hate when upgrading I would get to a listen mode upgrade because I would wish I could skip it or listen mode was its own entire tree. I think it should have been its own tree.

ehhh I would say not that simple because they did like Ellie. I think if the plot was different some would like it. It just betrayed their expectations in a good way. Its a larger plot. I got my concerns with story but don't hate it. I do understand why someone could feel any way about this game be it greatest of all time or hate it to some degree story wise

I was that way going in but it is more than that. I still think story is overly messy and weak at times but its more than revenge is bad. I do think regardless of where they go next would have slapped to have a choose your own ending even if they thought some gamers would obviously go a way. someone that plays 25-30 hour playthrough getting a possible "non canon " ending but their ending isn't terrible. I know Naughty Dog isnt about choice though.
