Do we not know the ending yet? I've seen a lot but not the ending, so maybe.

There was an updated version and it makes sense it isn't as open ended as the original leaks.

It was kinda up in the air whether what we saw was the ending or not. A lot of people thought it was, and if so, it would’ve been genuinely terrible. But if not, this could actually be pretty badass

the actual leak is out there and is a closed ending not as open-ended

yes I agree most people there are being ignorant but as a fan of the original, imo introducing abby and making you play as her so you can sympathize with her after killing joel doesn't sit right with me and goes against what made the first game so amazing, and it's definitely not gonna sit well with a lot of people including people itt that haven't seen the leaks yet. like at least make his death mean something, but instead of playing as ellie no you have to play as abby after and you don't need to be a video game designer to understand that's a horrible decision.

I think the problem is many people have gotten to attached to certain characters and that clouds their judgement. Plus ppl constantly mistake who the integral character is in the first game. TLOU was always Ellie's story

doesn't matter who's story it is when this game's plot reads like bad fan fiction. the most important story beats just feel so forced when the first game felt so raw and authentic, which is why you care about joel and ellie so much in the first place. I had a feeling joel was gonna die, but to kill him off with a druckmann look-alike spitting on his grave is mad disrespectful. if they're not able to pull it off, it will go down as one of gaming history's biggest mistakes.

I do agree execution is important but I also feel like the terms "subverting expectations" and" bad fan fiction" is way overused. Just cause it doesn't go the way ppl think. Plus I also believe most people get too use to dramatic or climactic events the they can even imagine something mundane happening to a important character.
However to your point The Abby character should've had at least a relationship or been related to Marlene. Would've made the audience feel for her a little more.

they're obviously trying to shock people with joel's death and making you sympathize with abby, so to say they're subverting expectations isn't far off. we wait 7 years for this sequel, and the best plot they could come up with is the daughter of the surgeon that you're forced to kill from the first game somehow makes it all the way from utah to seattle to kill joel and just spares ellie, only to get killed later? f\*\*\* that. they should have focused more on world-building, the cure, etc. but no they go the route of homophobic cult, people are s\*\*\*ty, revenge, etc. it's just so far fetched and not what I or most fans wanted. I guess when neil and troy said the game was about hate, they really went all out. I'm still trying to be somewhat reserved and hopeful but it's not looking too good.

That’s the thing man, it’s not always about the fans, they felt they told a story that was worth telling, so all we can do is wait and play for ourselves to see if it was worth it

I’ve never even played the first game So I’m not emotionally invested in the characters. Assuming the spoilers are executed good, I think it’s a pretty dope thing they’re doing.

The idea that sympathy is what you’re supposed to feel from that is wild. You’re just assuming creator intention at that point.
