like why would you ever want to be called Joel again, look the same with anyone . This like Osama Bin Laden being like "youve heard of me" then a 09/11 victim child saying "guess who". I just feel they could have done the moment of the early Joel death better. Did he soften up ? Yes. However would have been interesting if he blew his cover another way than directly saying his name. S*** really would be even crazier if it happened in game as in you had a hud up and were playing as Joel then you did something that made them realize.

True, but in some sense his trust in ppl never really left. Even as a hardcore survivor when he met Henry he gave up his name and was willing to go to their hideout after minutes of meeting. To me it’s just a consistent character arc.

I get you but at the end of the first game events he is a terrorist like forget even abby and her doctor father. Anyone that wanted their loved one cured or to get a vaccine could view him as an enemy.

Like I feel some of the weight of the ending of the first game was just kind of eschewed to reset Joel and Ellie as protagonist. yes obviously the game doesn't say they are entirely good but I feel this game really kind of ignores the ending of the first game until its convenient. With the 7 year gap making all logic writing wise go out the window some. I get it. It works but when I finished Last of Us 1 at first I hated the ending for a moment then I was like "nah thats genius if we never see them again and they do anthology style". Then the trailer 1 came some thought Joel was a ghost. etc etc

I feel like there is a way writing wise they could have kept going along the themes without Joel and Ellie settling into anything . Because Joel says his name anywhere or that he murdered the chance at a vaccine forget the firerflies anyone could want him dead. That's more how I felt end of game 1. He did a selfish thing because he missed his daughter so if it did come back nearly thought it would be them against basically everyone or having very low trust in humanity. I ain't mad like the other two but I get it

He kept Ellie alive for Selfish reasons when she had accepted death so I think some seeing him being so willing to die after all the events of game 1. Also him knowing in a way it would break Ellie was like "aight". Glad it worked for some and obviously I need to play more even if I know the story
