Logic became ass once he started to try to make "concept" albums. But I'd say his Young Sinatra tapes are miles above anything Joe has put out.

i can agree with that

but as far as writing music that is real and cuts through?

i don't think Logic has put out anything
with as much depth as Joe's best

in going back to some of that old music, to me, it's clear that logic learned what worked but there isn't a ton of substance there

he's like a great salesman

but he rarely delivers anything truly noteworthy

no pressure was the first time in a long
time that i felt like he wrote from the heart

and it made all the difference

he seems to struggle staying in that space though cause everything since has been half assed again imo

platform is the key word. he wants Ice & Ish to not be lumps & be go getters, start their own pods eventually...the thing is you can't make someone into that. they gotta come with the hunger

Depends what you like but these some of my favs:

Gaming Illuminaughty, Bodega Boys, The Read, Chapo Trap House, Inner Hoe Uprising, and the (RIP) Combat Jack Show.

Also Taxstone’s pod. The episode with him & Desus/Mero was how I got into them tbh.

but it's hard to take it as genuine when he wears his influences so heavily

take growing pains III for example

that skit before the song feels like GKMC
and it puts a bad taste in my mouth

some of the finest rapping i've heard though

years removed from 2014 i enjoy it more

but at that time, it felt like biting
and that is why he wasn't taken seriously

and he never recovered from that imo

I feel like it’s too good to be biting, if he was really biting the songs wouldn’t be as good. It’s still hard to ignore the similarities I can’t lie even with the beat of that one song is like a sped up version of a Kendrick song.

To be real though, just like Joe, Logic's mixtape stuff is better than his original stuff. I have personally never cared for Joe's ears for original beats. Like when it comes to artistry, dude just stinks of being a product of the early aughts. Like, out of all of the music Joe has made, he has made one good album cover and that's All Love Lost.
