i think it's pretty nuanced

im sure it wasn't easy
to approach the topic for rory

because of the friendship dynamic

so i think it is possible for
joe's initial statement to be true

he could have read that on rory

and when the conversation
happened he said no

neither of us were there to read the room
so who knows what actually happened

but i don't feel like joe is the bad guy here

ian doesn't have a contract with joe
and he's not the type of person to
bullshit

i feel like his points during the
conversation were the most realistic
and it's why i feel like rory and mal
will likely come out of this looking
pretty bad

because i just don't imagine a
world where joe would lie about this

because he's the only one who would
be damaged by the lie at this point

Ian is speaking from a pure business perspective and he’s Joes lawyer so he actually knows the details of the business side of things. He should be able to articulate himself and have nuanced discussion about the topic at hand. Joe is trying to come from a pure business perspective but his relationships with Rory/Mal makes it almost impossible for him to do so IMO
