Charlamagne said joe is a bad negotiator and I agree. How they got you doing 2 pods a week yet you never ask about vacation time? Cant be mad at spotify for something you shouldve handled back then.
He brags about knowing his value but I think he’s just a bad negotiator and lets his emotions get in the way of his business. Prolly his fault the complex s*** fell through too
Not sure how Joe is a bad negotiator for turning down a podcast 360 deal where they own all his stuff and don't even give him revenue share from ads lol. He's also correct in looking at what other podcasts are being bought out for, looking at his metrics and then coming up with numbers based off of that. It's also not abnormal for him to expect to renogtiate based off of great performance on top of that - you do that s*** in 9-5 jobs, sports, music, film/tv lol. If you followed the Call Her Daddy beef, the girl who ended up winning was the one who fought to keep the IP at the end of the day and do splits on merch etc. On some level Spotify should've taken Barstool's approach and actually helped improve their brand, given them the tools they need to even stream some of the tour dates live and taken a cut. He's right to value time spent listening - if his audience are locking in for 2-3 hours podcasts twice a week that means there's more potential for those same listeners to find other things to listen to on said platform instead of going elsewhere. Some podcast listeners also watch on youtube, so he's right to see a lot of value in that especially if Spotify are building a video platform lol.
I'd say the JBP is in a good spot independently especially if they're just going to put the podcast out on all platforms. Personally I think they should also start looking into establishing a presence on video streaming platforms like Twitch - just edit some of the podcasts then have them streaming 24/7, people are watching w/e these days. Also utilising their website more and upping their merch game.
Joe's Not a Businessman, He's a Business, Man
@OP you stupid man!

Let my handle my business, damn!

Let my handle my business, damn!
Savon can be one hit away his whole career, as long as the pod alive he got a job somewhere.
If they were asking for a piece of Joe’s Pull Up money, as a “silent partner clause” what makes you think they wouldn’t want a hand in Mal and Rory’s pockets?
like i said find it hard to believe they would ask for pull up too. Its been going on since before spotify and not even related to the pod.

...it's part of the JBP brand, which they want ownership of hence the offering of a 360 deal, and is extra content with music artists for a platform who's business is music. Doesn't matter if it was going on before, they want ownership of it going forward lol
Keeping an IP is more than just residuals for whole episodes. It’s everything from merch to branding rights and on and on
Ah yeah that changes things lol I don’t why I forgot about that aspect
Episode 288 is a classic, starts with Mal asking that woman at the masterclass if she has a boyfriend, then Joe says he would be a hoe if he was a woman, Rory says he loves tip and the whole Logic twisted off the juice breakdown followed by the JT lyric reading.
Whole pod was less than 2hrs too

Bout to give that a listen
Imagine a JBP twitch deal
I honestly do wonder how Joe would’ve done with a podcast network though. I swear I’ve heard him talk podcasts with Vince Staples and Freddie Gibbs before.
