The only acquisition that they acquired in that 2 year timespan that is outperforming them is Joe Rogan though lol. Like he said Joe Rogan is the exception not the rule. There is no podcast you can compare to him at all. He is in a league of his own.
So all of you saying they have no leverage I don’t really get it? The deal they offered was a 360 deal, I don’t think Rory or Mal, especially Rory wants any part of that. Even if the money up front is more than they’ve ever seen in their life.
I'm not saying they have no leverage, i'm saying that Spotify have already taken a lot of what they needed from them.
I feel like exclusives are used to establish new platforms. The reason why Spotify never needed music exclusives, but AM and Tidal did was cos they already had control of the music space.
With podcasting as Joe says, Apple had that control.
2 years ago Spotify needed exclusives to get basic s*** working for their podcast service. Having a podcast as influential as Joe's, made podcasters more likely to put their podcasts up on Spotify and direct their listeners there. It got listeners used to using Spotify for podcasts. And in a small way it could have laid the groundwork for their Rogan deal.
Spotify now have the other podcasts, Joe Rogan and all the new podcast listeners Budden brought to the platform.
They don't have that many new things to gain from 2 more years of Joe Budden audio.
That's why the condition of the money was a 360 deal that included video content. Those new exclusives could let them do the same thing they've done with his podcasting audio content with all Joe Budden's other content. So if Joe will only sign for audio content then his leverage does decrease imo.
That's just my opinion tho
you guys clowning joe for taking “a 360 deal” are idiots. Joe said himself getting access to the a***ytics was what made it worth it. and that’s indisputably true
i think he had a lot more value to them 2 years ago
a lot of what spotify gained from having him they'll still have if he leaves. he's made a lot of people like us go to spotify for podcasts for the first time, but now his audience is in the habit of going to spotify for podcasts, they'll keep using spotify that way if they're subscribers.
that's really what spotify needed from this exclusive.
he seems to know this tho by saying he doesn't want them to 'pillage' from their video content too.
a lot of the podcasters he influenced to put their podcasts on Spotify will probably stay there too and now they've got Joe Rogan they can influence way more listeners and podcasters than they did with Budden.
Yup totally agree. Once they got The Ringer and especially JRE, Joe became expendable. Quite frankly, they needed him for the jump into podcasts but now that they have THE podcast, they have no use for Joe.

yeah i feel bad for him really, from what he's saying it sounds like he didn't get the situation he wanted when he was invaluable to the company. but what chance does he have of getting it now if he couldn't get it then.
are there many places he can go now? Creating on Tidal with no numbers/data would be frustrating af in so many ways
So this is why joe wanted the drake interview so bad and keeps saying drake has good deals because hes jewish
Joe ended the speech with “A lot of this is your first time hearing it” to the 3 others. Said he had lost 1 night of sleep if this was a bad decision for his team because they had not made the same M’s as him, but the next day he woke up and did not feel like that so much, and then Parks laughed.
Make of that as you will
Its getting spooky

Yeah, I deadass don't see an opportunity for them that is going to be better than just staying with Spotify.
You literally didn't listen
here you niggas go man
okay what did i miss then
here you niggas go man
okay what did i miss then
Please show where they feel slighted by Rogans deal?
They straight up said that no podcast compares to his, not even the JBP
So you either have s*** hearing or didnt listen

He’s out performing The Ringer though, so this take doesn’t make much sense to me? They can supplement losing him sure, but I feel like you’re phrasing it in a way that the ringer brings more value.
Y’all are saying they ain’t gone get anything better than the 360 deal, while simultaneously trying to clown them for what y’all perceive to be a 360 deal?
All the podcast that Spotify has acquired in the 2 year span that JBP has been there, they’ve outperformed, save for JRP. So how does that equate to them having no value to y’all?
Imo it's totally out of bounds for Spotify to ask for ownership of The Pull Up.
The no bonuses after stating that they were number one pod for the year makes me wonder what's up with them.
And the fact that they couldn't give them 200k in watches after not paying the bonuses is a violation.
Please show where they feel slighted by Rogans deal?

yo..
hol on we not gon do this hol on
my nigga, where the f*** were you the whole week joe was drove about the deal? nigga congratulated rogan and everything but was clearly bothered by it.
You actin like you cant feel slighted by something even in recognizing that you have the lesser platform it's not improbable my nigga
Then after that, after the podcasts covering the BLM and protests, we got the countdowns signaling when the pod was making its exit. you can put two and two together bro they laid the s*** out on the cutting room floor here on the latest s***
Joe Rogan got a bag
Joe Budden got a watch
and it wasnt just Rogan, Joe said the prime celebrities coming into the podcast space, your Amy Schumers, your Michelle Obamas, they were f***in up the bags for people whose jobs are podding and trying to really come up off that.
im just saying my whole problem is that these niggas didnt really need to come on here and discuss this s***. should just leave with some grace and keep s*** pushin. this s*** was just not a professional look to me, like at all. a content creator is always open to criticize their platform but they made this more personal than it needed to be.

this is why i'd rather them make their own network
if niggas like tom segura can do it then so can joe
Haven’t listened yet but whatever they do or wherever they go I hope they find success cause they’ve brought me a lot of entertainment even during episodes that weren’t all that.

Facts
not a docta...
HHHHHHHH WAITAMINUTE
At this point after hearing this pod they shouldn’t do business with Spotify. They presented them with a product and gave them a platform to build on and they treated them like garbage. You throwing millions of dollars at unproven podcast but can’t buy used watches for your #1 product.
to be real as soon as joe realized they had to consult spotify about vacation time they should've took that as a sign
how you the number one podcast but still have to practically pod on christmas wtf
I wonder how much them being the number 1 podcast really means, when they are the only one who are exclusive to Spotify.
I listen to both Gimlet and Ringer podcast networks as well, but on Apple. I guess the counter to that would be that's is a positive for the JBP, because they actually bring users to Spotify, but I think they will try to eventually migrate listeners of the Ringer, and Gimlet over, and make them exclusives to Spotify.
Also I'm not surprised the relationship went sour when Joe said they turned down a deal where they were offered $150,000 to place ads for 6-8 episode. If Spotify was willing to give them that, then they must of lost a pretty decent amount of money on that deal not going through, and it goes against their entire plan for monetizing podcasts, which they have so heavily invested in.
