iirc instagram enforces the rule because ALL the popular white girl influencers were promoting fyre festival as if they were just gonna be hanging out, then none of them were there.

so the concept of it was if you promote something to people as a genuine interest but it’s an ad, you’d be misleading them. because instagram isn’t a platform that was created for user based advertising. whereas with podcasts, it’s commonplace for there to be ads.
