obviously it's not "maximum punishment." maximum punishment is the death penalty or life without parole. but in a capitalist society that does not have free healthcare, housing, or transportation, losing your job is a really, really, really s***ty thing. same for losing out on educational opportunities (since those can lead to employment)

there is one side that is really, really into scouring people's social media and people's pasts to get them to lose jobs and educational opportunities

The right also doxxes people on social media and records themselves harrassing them to push their agenda (these actions aren't exclusive to the right though)
Ie: trump supporters filming themselves harassing random people for wearing a mask during a global pandemic

Outrage culture exists on both sides of the spectrum is my point

Lastly, it's still a very rare occurrence
People lose their jobs over insignificant stuff everyday - like quotas or salary issues - sometimes HR just sees it as convenient to terminate a person. Plenty people get fired without a reason at all. I don't see y'all jump up and down for them by invoking how hard it must be under this capitalist system (that's usually the job of those who have more left leaning views lol )

I don't believe essential workers in a business, industry or field are being terminated because people on Twitter are mad. Imo whoever is in charge estimates that keeping this person attached to the brand is doing their pockets more harm them good thus they get cut.

The right doesn’t have the requisite level of cultural power (in academia, Hollywood, and media) to exert power on corporations to do its bidding like the left does

Also the examples you used illustrate my point. People on the right typically (though not always) are going after an institution: the NFL, Gillette, etc. People on the left will go after an individual, urging that specific individual’s firing from a job or dismissal from school

You’re right it’s relatively rare, but it doesn’t have to happen a bunch of times for it to have a chilling effect on expression
