In 2016, Rick Famuyiwa was set to write and direct based on Grahame-Smith’s draft, but dropped out due to creative differences with Warner.
Between 2017 and 2018, Joby Harold wrote several scripts, while Lord & Miller, Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn, Sam Raimi, Marc Webb and Tim Miller, among others, declined to direct.
In 2018, John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein were set to write and direct, but dropped out due to creative differences with Ezra Miller.
Miller wrote his own script alongside Grant Morrison, but it was rejected by Warner.
In 2019, Andy Muschietti was set to direct from a script by Christina Hodson that included some of Miller’s and Morrison’s ideas. This is the creative team currently attached to the project.

Grahame-Smith’s draft featured Flash and Cyborg fighting the Rogues.
Famuyiwa’s draft feature Flash and Cyborg fighting Captain Cold and Golden Glider and featured a subplot about Flash investigating the unlawful death of a black youth.
Harold’s draft adapted “Flashpoint” and went through multiple revisions. Earlier drafts featured the Justice League but later drafts did not. Most drafts featured Flash and Thomas Wayne Batman fighting Reverse Flash.
Daley & Goldstein’s draft adapted parts of “Flashpoint” and featured Flash fighting Reverse Flash and Mirror Master.
Miller & Morrison’s draft adapted “Flashpoint” and featured Flashes from across the Multiverse fighting Black Flash.
Hodson’s draft reportedly adapts “Flashpoint” and features Flash and Michael Keaton’s Batman fighting Black Flash.
