My issue with hip hop mainly is the over-emphasis on escapism over anything. Like you dont have to talk about Epstein or even ICE but I aint gonna lie, the luxury raps just do not hit the same when inflation makes it hard to buy groceries 'nahmean?

Niggas be writing bullshit like they gotta work
Niggas is going through real s***, man, they out of work
That's why another goddamn dance track gotta hurt

  • Like it's only so many times I can see a street rapper flaunting they fake iced out chain before I'm like "aight bro, this all cool but we all know you got that on loans" lol.

think something that doesn’t get mentioned is many times those who came from worlds of trauma, even in they current levels of success may still be surrounded by many close to them going through the same traumas they came from that they are actively focused in helping that their art is serving as their cathartic release from everything they dealing with in they personal life (like I could only imagine how many family members hitting you directly daily for help or with a sad story) that then turning to the larger crowd who are also expecting you to meet them at their trauma is ultimately just like “damn, I been tryna fix my world ya’ll, I’m not your savior” type s***) so yea, sitting down to write a 16 can be hard within that cause then on the back end you got the people making topics like this who hold you responsible for not commenting cause they depersonalized the black experience to glaze a pop star who’s hardest thing to deal with today is how she can properly make sure not to offend anyone in their next post LOL

Art itself is not an industry. Art is just art.

It is industry itself that has been the biggest killer of the arts.

I hate these threads, because it’s either people defending the artists innaction, or the brigade of leftists who purposefully obfuscate and infantilize the argument for some strange internet brownie point

Woodie Guthrie wrote this machine kills fascists on his guitar

It’s okay to expect more from artists

    ironic but

There's this expectation that niggas supposed to speak out about everything all the time for everyone when the Epstein list is mostly white men with power and one of his biggest homeboys in the WH right now because everyone but niggas wanted him back in or didn't care to stop him.

I agree that Hip Hop should be more politically active but I also don't like the expectation of black Americans to mule for people and that's what a lot of this Convo always becomes for me.

wanted niggas not to go to work for a day for a day off (just use your PTO!) as a form of protest lmfaooooooooo

  • 10 pages of pointless energy sapping back n forth idk how yal do it man id lose my mind

the timeline where bad bunny says f*** a US tour + f*** the superbowl and jus organizes some livestream pop out s*** in an exclusively hispanic country (e.g., mexico, etc.) >>

the youth in South Africa didn’t stand up to apartheid cause a singer got on stage and said f*** the police

they stood up cause a white cop shot a 17 year old who was protesting smdh

that s*** became a national tragedy, not something to be proud of despite all the change it later caused smdh. I can’t believe that dude said that bullshit about kids watching the Grammys and making posts/posters or being frontline

To my knowledge he hasn’t said anything about ice

him speaking about Roe V Wade the day it was overturned isn’t enough? When is it enough? I just want to know the line

  • Didnt read any of this thread at all but F*** these right wingers

him speaking about Roe V Wade the day it was overturned isn’t enough? When is it enough? I just want to know the line

I’m bowing out of this thread. I think my point of artists doing this stuff is nice and good and a benefit for people is getting conflated with “this is what causes change/revolution” which I don’t agree with.

And I don’t want to argue since judging from your previous post before the one you replied to me with. We probably agree

  • The “it’s just for fun” excuse is old at this point

    Please talk about something real

All this hoes, ice, money s*** is fun but OLD and lacking any substance like most rappers today

I do think the silence on ICE when it's like...they coming after niggas too...is more astounding but like I said, mainstream hip hop as a genre has been cooked for decades. I been mainly listening to a lot of R&B this year besides $ilkmoney

If art is inherently political and they are detaining people of all races including for having an opinion . Journalist ( assange Snowden don lemon ) whistle blowers . If those with the most power to say anything say nothing then that means what’s the point at all ? To be pacified by art while the world is utterly destroyed and indistinguishable from what we knew . By that logic who cares which artist do or don’t use ai. We should care what they are doing and saying . I agree an ice pin isn’t enough they should donate to causes , protest , volunteer , help politicians that can effect change , elevate or work with Latin artist

They did Lupe foul just for telling the truth about Obama

Which is what I’ve been saying . It’s my issue with Kendrick fans comparing Kendrick to Pac when he lacks the politics . He isn’t rapping to get the slaves freed quite the opposite

Bad Bunny one of the biggest voices against ICE.

Taylor Swift is a loser and sooner or later her fanbase gonna look back and be like how she never really used her platform for s*** besides "my boyfriend's red D***" is kinda wack.

I think people expect rappers because hip hop was always kinda looked at as the "political" genre. And as the youngest of genres was seen as where you would get the "real s***"

Never realizing we would already at the end of the genre by now.

Taylor swift a white woman I don’t expect her to trade fame or money for action she became the ditzy popular bully that probably bullied her growing up . Non white people wanting us to unite and rise up speak truth to power is moving

S*** fans of the genre used to care about it . Many of us hated on Drake for not saying s*** politically but now when their favorite artist doesn’t say s*** they make excuses for it
