Drake in the Eminem post TES saga of his career. Always gonna put up respectable numbers have a bop or two. But his time as the main character in the rap game has come to close
This is entirely delusional and I know you know it. There's no 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, etc that have come (or are coming) to replace Drake's stranglehold on the game. At all. The next Drake solo album era will have him right back where he was. If anything, the beef got him back on track and out of la la land. He fully is aware of how vital this next solo album is to his legacy, which is something Drake has never taken lightly from Room for Improvement to now. He definitely lost his way over the last few years and got visibly complacent but like I said, the Kendrick beef seems to have shaken him back to reality. To say he'll be sharing more of the top with Kendrick moving forward is totally fair, but Kendrick still hasn't overtaken him and won't.

yandIt’s funny when people say s*** like “The Drake era” because it’s solely tied to commercial success as opposed to influence, cultural impact, tastemaking or really pushing the genre forward in any meaningful way whatsoever so I never really understood why it was ever dubbed that at all.
It isn’t any different than how Lebron fans try to give him an “era” although Curry was way more revolutionary and impactful on basketball as a whole.
Maybe the conversation should be saved for the retrospective I guess

He hasn't officially dropped any rap other than Gimme a Hug and that song was majority acclaimed and enjoyed by most. I don't count the plot twist loosies. They weren't put on streaming for a while and even then, No Face and It's Up were both solid.
He backflipped into a stable top 10 billboard hit in Nokia while having to fight through a full-on hate train (regardless of how that hate train came to be). The only people that think $$$4U was "bad" are the the Drake haters that don't like anything he does. I don't think $$$ was great and I don't revisit it, but I've never cared for R&B Drake to begin with. I love the rap Drake and that's the version I check for.

We in the Kendrick era whether we like it or not. Drake fell off, quality wise, around 2016. Fell off, popularity wise, the last 2 years or so. Streams and all that BS doesn't tell the story.
Carti, for example, is more popular with young people than Drake and it ain't even close. As is Travis. Whether thats good for hip hop or not is another discussion.
