Drake's era won't ever truly be over because he's a more musically-talented Eminem in terms of insane longevity and relevance, but unlike Eminem, Drake still has a vice grip on the culture and can still churn hits whenever he wants. The worst that'll happen is that he won't be able to sustain the numbers he was putting up at his peak (but no one can ever do that and the fact that he's been able to do that for the better part of two decades is a testament to his star power) but he'll still be a top 2/top 3 rap artist in terms of numbers in any given year for the foreseeable future. He's still that much bigger than the rest of the rap landscape.

If Eminem, in his 50s, who has lost the culture for the most part for well over a decade now can still put up massive streaming numbers just off the strength of his back catalog then Drake will be just fine.

Except he retires, it'll be 2035 and everyone will still be just as obsessed with Drake as they were in 2015.

Yeah. Like I said, Drake still has enough popularity to sell and stream just off of his name for a long time.

Plus, Drake's still fairly young in the game at only 38 which is older but not "Unc" status yet. Hov was 38 when he dropped Blueprint 3. And Ye was 38 when he dropped TLOP.

But I think Em and Drake are sorta in different lanes which makes this comparison kinda make sense but also apples and oranges at the same time.

Em was never known for churning out club bangers like that. He has them like with Without Me, Superman, Smack That(feature), and Forgot About Dre(feature) but it's not really his thing. Whereas Drake is heavily associated with bangers and summer smashes.

Em's relevance is mainly due to having a strong core fanbase who checks for his raps, regardless of the musical quality. By contrast, Drake seems to have a more general/casual audience that's looking for him to make club bangers and smash hits.

And what's funny is that, despite not being a club banger, Houdini is a bigger song(much bigger on a global scale) than Nokia if we go by the stats. So, I'd say Em even in spite of his musical decline is still more of an alien than Drake when it comes to numbers.

Saying "Drake still has enough popularity to sell and stream just off of his name for a long time" doesn't tell the whole story. Name recognition only really helps with first-week numbers. From the second week, how an album or song performs rests more and more on how many people are actively choosing to keep listening/supporting the music. That's why Eminem albums for the last decade have fallen off after a few weeks and they don't have any sort of cultural significance after the first week. His name recognition gets him the strong first-week numbers, sure, but because the music is no longer compelling enough to the masses/casual listeners, the numbers drop drastically from week 2 and after a few months, the albums leave the Billboard 200 altogether. Eminem's songs from the late 90s - mid 2000s are the ones carrying all the weight as far as his back catalog numbers go because that's what his fans mainly keep listening to.

Drake has proven that he doesn't need hit records to have successful album eras so whether he prioritizes making hits moving forward or not, he'll be fine. He just has to keep making music that his fans/the casual listener regards as good.

The point I'm trying to make is that Drake isn't just mailing it in with the music. His fans don't just blindly support everything he drops. If he drops something they don't f*** with, it'll be reflected in the numbers because they have over a dozen other projects to go listen to instead so he'll have to keep making good music like he always has to sustain his numbers moving forward.

With all that being said, he remains committed to staying active as a musician so we can look forward to new music from him for the foreseeable future. Like Eminem, though, he's lucky to have built a sizeable back catalog that people love revisiting so should his new music ever stop being compelling, they can always just go back to the old stuff that was.

People will always spin Drake’s back catalog, as well as Kanye and Eminem. These numbers are meaningless when it comes to the relevance of recently released music.
