I think you guys are getting sound confused with impact. Your ear is subjective. I like more songs by the cure, but I like both.
Both are influential, but only one could say they created timeless classics in 3 different decades that changed the landscape of music each time in the cure.
Robert Smith was also the ENTIRETY of the Cure, he wrote the lyrics, composed the songs, and played guitar AND produced. Morrisey's solo albums sucked but combine him with Marr and they go hard. That's ignoring the bassist and drummer who often times get s*** on.
The Cure also wrote songs that managed to consistently break into the mainstream. From the 70s to the 90s. Think about how much popular music changed between then and they still could pull that off.
It's really no comparison at all even if you go by sales.
Okay we friends
I’m gonna have to lean more towards the smiths. But tbh talking heads were the best band of the 80’s
smiths for the better peak album, cure for the better discog
f*** morrissey tho
disintegration, kiss me, p***ography can contend with the smiths’ best, but other than that they fall off with the exception of bloodflowers
The Cure, obviously.
But the real goat band of the 80s has to be Cocteau Twins
their last two mid90s albums are underrated
Literally invented shoegaze to became big thing during the 90/
dream pop also. cranberries could never
