@Ithaka ive had a convo with a couple people on here about the OG Pet Sounds mono sounding like booty cheeks. I owned a copy myself and sold that s*** cuz the 2000s stereo remaster imo is better
Brian Wilson > The beach boys
Highly recommend listening to pet sounds on some vintage speakers.
Get some wicker face speakers and it's over.
10/10 on cs-88's
Im still pissed to this day that I sold mine, if you ever get your hand on some don't let them go!
Thought you were gonna hibernate through the non Beach Boys weather
holy s*** that’s some next level conceptual s***
hol up hooolllddd up

the best version exists on vinyl, somehow out of total blue someone at capitol had the idea to rerelease a new mono of pet sounds in 1972 as a double disc, one disc being pet sounds and the other beingthe new album “so tough” (very underrated) and its killer
i almost owned it myself once as i came across it at a flee market, of all things, but stupid ignorant me passed on it thinking “oh i already have a copy of PS (
) and oh what’s this so tough album nah it’s not Pet Sounds ima skip (
)”
i like to think this, being one of the greatest mistakes of my life, is somehow the origin of this thread, as like a copping mechanism to make up for it
Didnt the last box set come out in December of 2018 or something
mmmm not sure what we talking about here at top of my head, are you thinking about some of their “copyrights” release thing that covers a whole year or era? i don’t think they’re boxsets
last boxset i remember of is the “Made in California” no?

I've seen it at record stores for a while now but passed on it thinking it was just a tacked on reissue. Imma give it a spin one of these days
Mr Bungle (other band of Mike Patton singer songwriter of Faith No More) band members talking about the influence of The Beach Boys on them and their iconic pop experimental album titled California from 1999:
Beach Boys and Brian Wilson have been in our heads for years. I tried to get these guys to do something from the Beach Boy's "Casino Royale" about ten years ago. They didn't go for it. How can you not be influenced, at least slightly, by Brian Wilson if you have squeezable melodic intentions? Danny Heifetz (1999)
When we were throwing around titles that we thought summed up the vibe of that collection of songs both “In Technicolor” and “California” seemed fitting. Another one we had was “Map To The Stars”. Hollywood musicals, colorization, fabrication, the American dream —these were vague concepts that the song-writing just happened to suggest. I seem to remember staying up late one night and making a list of these titles and “California” was one of them. Certainly there is a nod to Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. Trevor Dunn (2017)
It wasn't until four or five years ago that I realized how great some of Wilson's Beach Boys stuff is. You know when you're a kid, you love the Beach Boys - then you turn 'cool' and you have to hate them. It took me a while to get over that. Trey Spruance (1999)
(^ this mf right there is spitting big fax)
Side note: Trey Spruance (also been guitarist for Faith No More) went on to record two Beach Boys cover on his own project

I'm just saying, from what I recall they were on tour, and he could not go so he stayed back and curated pet sounds.

McCain ruined b**** boys for me when he started singing Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran
Also on the point of his camp milking him. I thought it was his wife exploiting him.
Didn't she enable mental health issues he had so she could continue to gain from him?
