Do You Wanna Dance is one of the goat openers of all time no questions asked
could the beach boys have been just as big if they never let mike love join and left him at his graveyard shifts at the gas station pumpin gas?

Hmmm, it's possible for sure but they didn't really have another member, especially at the beginning (and arguably not until people like Blondie Chaplin joined with his charisma) who had the pure frontman ability and stage presence of Mike, a lot of the time early on he carried a lot of their live show's energy (I feel)! He also had a pretty unique normal register with that distinct nasally delivery as well as a really nice low register for the low harmonies that blended well with the rest of the group
oh also if you guys are Patti Smith fans check out Scorsese's dope 2019 Rolling Thunder Revue doco, some great stuff with her in there I just remembered
I had sluggish muddy Surf's Up version for years before the gods blessed us with The Smile Sessions and a retooling of the old tapes resulting a dramatically more pristine version. Brian's vocal is literally different, hits much higher highs.
I like the 71 version best, Brian’s vocals are cool too but not finished
we still get him in the second movement of 71 while getting the cleaner Carl vocals on the first
