thats the spirit brother š thatās why am here for
tired of falling into beatles comparison or just bringing one album when thereās so much more to that - not only their peak mountain everest greatness but influence and what they have brought, invented and birthed, their legacy is left in shadows due to terrible label and people in charge
what was the doc?
jeez you have lot of hate
just thought id tag you for the yardbirds anecdote
Why do you always gotta take me not liking something as hatred
there are grey areas sir

brian vibes
my pleasure brother
hereās another cool thing - steven tyler did for time magazine a list of 3 albums he would save with him if he had to go in a deserted island, of all beach boys records he picked smiley smile (1967), thatās real af
Steven Tyler: If I was on an island, just for melody--because my father went to Juilliard--I would take albums by those two (AC/DC & The Rolling Stones) and the Beach Boys' Smiley Smile. Just for the melodic f--- all.

damn...
elton told a story about meeting brian and seeing the sandbox pit iirc on howard stern

yeah i saw that - wasnāt a fan on how he puts it, not very nice towards brian and his mental illness
i wish he would mention more all the times he wrote songs for or about the beach boys or praised their work
like this 2006 song for example

Our heroes led us by the hand through Brian Wilson's promised land
Elton John: Pet Sounds is a landmark album. For me to say that I was enthralled would be an understatement. I had never heard such magical sounds, so amazingly recorded. It undoubtedly changed the way that I, and countless others, approached recording. It is a timeless and amazing recording of incredible genius and beauty
Elton says the first chords of his classic 1975 song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight' echo Wilson's brilliant "Pet Sounds" single, "God Only Knows." "It's an inverted chord, not a root chord. I got that from 'God Only Knows.' Being a piano player, I latched onto that immediately when I heard it."
"Phil came out with a quote recently that Brian Wilson never wrote a decent thing. Are you expletive kidding me? Expletive off. I wanted to hit him.

never saw this
ty
forgot this was released as a Brian solo single
why?

In Marilyn's recollection, "Everybody at Capitol said it should be a single because it was so good, and there were no background vocals, so they said, 'Why don't we release this as a Brian Wilson single, because it's really not a Beach Boys song."

god is capitol so dumb
altho tbf there was hype growing to emphasize on brian for marketing wise as the growing genius, already on todayās album cover:
and itās nice that this scenario is reality as this makes it brians first official solo release
which is funny because if this makes pet sounds brian first solo work - it starts a curious pattern:
pet sounds - 1966
11 years later
love you - 1977
11 years later
brian wilson - 1988
(for those who arenāt familiar ālove youā is the first beach boys album since pet sounds that is 100% written and produced by brian - it was originally worked as a solo album ābrian loves youā and features his wife marilyn singing on it, and the 1988 being his first official solo album)
the 11 years window then broke but if you break it down to a 10 years window the brian did release a solo album in 1998 imagination and also the great that lucky old sun in 2008 and if we count these it greatly extends an amazing run of brians creativity peaking back, isnāt it that curious?
from:

1966
to:

2008
so am i reaching? thoughts on this @Elric ?
either way i think itās a cool theory and makes for a nice run

Elton John: Brian Wilson has influenced me more than any other songwriter, whether it's English or American. Because of the way he shaped his chords, the way...I'm getting very technical now, but he never used...he...the root note of a chord, he used the 5th or the 3rd and changed the chord sound completely. ... I have never been influenced so much as songwriter by anybody as much as Brian Wilson.

man imagine if that lucky old sun was a bbs album.... talk about THE comeback - what recover from summer in paradise whew

this song has carole king on the bass !!!!
@Ithaka do you agree that side B of pet sounds > side A?
(very slightly)
also Here Today might be the most underrated on the album for me, at this point i think its in my top 5-6 of the album
