Why did you link that page? Didn't you ask for non album songs
yeah i kinda changed topic slightly
Why did you link that page? Didn't you ask for non album songs
yep shelved songs
ye but i was just using non albums as a side point not meaning to directly compare to the straight up bootleg ones
just showing that they didnt waste the "leftovers".
beach boys got quality non album official releases too though ofc like Break Away
yeh but that’s not the argument tho
eeehhhh well they didn’t write it
by that measure seasons in the sun is a bbs song too
dont think ive ever heard something called seasons in the sun

terry jacks was some canadian rising artist then he went to the us to present this seasons in the sun song he wrote (partially inspired by a jacques brel song) to the bbs to use (we talking surfs up era) they gave it a shot and it remains shelved

years later terry finally recorded it himself and it became a hit

nirvana covered it too

theres not an argument lol just providing more info to my point that beatles were arguably more efficient with deciding which songs went on albums, and using the leftover ones anyway instead of letting great ones go to waste
i wonder how much of that is a management issue though tbh since afaik beatles had more artistic freedom than later beach boys especially who maybe seemed like they had to get bossed around a bit by the label/manager. or pressured at least

yep shelved songs
Kinks, Dylan and Neil got just as much gold in the vault as anybody.
I would stan any band that came out with these but they were in the vault for years;

Neil's new album homegrown is mostly a whole new album he just didn't feel like releasing in the early mid 70s
ah, and its an adaptation of a song did by your man jacques brel i see
heeehhhh it’s more remakish iirc

yup another reason why we need neil thread so @Ithaka can post some random vault gems
kinda wanna put seasons on my surfs up alt but doesn’t really fit for the album does it
maybe as a stand along single to it

Wanna see a timeline where the Kinks wound up with George Martin instead
this is spikey punk to you??
try this 1999 one then, there is no way its even close to spikey punk. (not even rock at this point)
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMeQjcmt52gand this is the direct beach boys pastiche:
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRcXWGLummofirst one i can see why i didnt dig
second one whew
amazing
third one damn does he ever sound like brian

or Spector
yup another reason why we need neil thread so @Ithaka can post some random vault gems
neil having one of the most influential bands covering a leftover he never even bothered to record in studio is a big flex
but then again the bbs have primal scream covering a bbs song that still remains to this day only bootlegged, unreleased
that’s prolly also a big flex beatles don’t have
or Spector
Elvis with Spector in the 70s couldve saved both their lives
hard to imagine how crazy that wouldve been

ok i think maybe you should skip ahead to the late career gem Apple Venus Volume One then, probably my #3 from them. lush and chamber af with amazing arrangements/orchestration. barely any rock let alone spiky punk and much more mature
