where did you give up with XTC?
band is approaching top favorite level for me as im finishing up entire discogXTC got pretty beach boys ish at times but its also always distinctly british so that takes away from that aspect. equally beatles ish. both direct influences ofc
and ofc they did some direct beach boys pastiche on side project dukes of stratosphear i think i showed before

doesnt strike me as especially "dad rock" style either compared to other stuff of the time so not quite sure what that means or if it means anything at all. Other than the fact that Dennis does sound like a dad on it

i think i actually liked a few jams of Mummer but then finally got to Skylarking and it was not what i was expecting. was hoping for some effervescent kinks/beach boys/beatles like opus but it still sounded like spikey punk band xtc.
