DCU seemingly only has 1 2027 and 1 2028 release now, while Reeves Batman is still the studio's leading franchise. There's gotta be other business decisions to make here than duplicating Batman for the sake of a shared universe

I don't think it’s the only reason but it’s a pretty big one on its own. I'd imagine they knew about this the entirety of production so far.

Abrams film finished production in August 2025, could have wrapped for release in November 2026, and got delayed nearly a year until October 2027. That's dramatic enough to force slate swap with a film actively in production.
