I’ve developed this taste for the absurd and kitsch. Maybe kitsch isn’t the best word to describe them, but the B-52’s are a band who seem to prioritize fun over seriousness. 3 dudes and 2 girls from Athens, GA, they had a vision…
They start off as sort of this blend of space age pop and surf rock new wave band. Planet Claire probably is my favorite song by them and it’s their intro on their debut but don’t let that scare you. I just REALLY like this song for some reason. I love that main melody that sounds so familiar, it sounds like it’s from something old but like I could’ve heard it in SpongeBob or something

Oh and those crunchy guitars are hard af
Rock Lobster is a classic

Wild Planet album is def a continuation of the debut. Quiche Lorraine is about a guy looking for his lost alien dog wearing jeans

Strobe light I like cuz I like how they beat drops out and they guy and girl talk back and forth.

Whammy! has some gems too. The drum machine makes its debut here. I like song for a future generation cuz of the guys and girls go back and forth making up speeding dating profiles. And moon 83 is a good representation of their space age sound.

Bouncing Off The Satellites might be my least fav of the group for now, but doesn’t mean it doesn’t jam. I think this album plays a transitional role towards their next album which would bring them back into the spotlight if you will. The sound being a more polished, generally new wave sound if I had to pin it.

The B-52’s scored a couple hits in the late 80’s with Cosmic Thing. I think we all know Love Shack and you will know Roam when you play it (so good). But I also really enjoy Dry County. Great hook with such a nice beat.

I’m gonna end my thread here cuz havent really got into their last two albums 1992’s Good Stuff and 2008’s Funplex.
Every time I hear Roam out at a grocery store or somewhere, it gets stuck in my head for hours lol that hook is infectious
i gotta get into their discog but i fw the singles ive heard from them
They’re surprisingly consistent. I dumped all these albums into a playlist and there’s maybe like 3 songs I skip
