I’ll poke around for a good thread
Hope I don’t have to make one
My assessment of Australia’s post colonization history
Colonization to late 1800s: dumping ground for British lower classes
Late 1800s to WW2: breeding ground for soldiers for the British Empire
50s and 60s: transition period from British to American ascendancy, bastion of racism a la South Africa
70s onwards: testing ground for authoritarian/interventionist policies for the US
ive been in lockdown for 9 months even though the "vaccinated" transmit covid just as easily as i do

The idea is that policies are tested out in Australia (chosen due to its many cultural and social similarities) to see how they would go/be received - see also gun buyback, points system immigration, putting every illegal immigrant on some island in the middle of the Pacific (along with harsh lockdowns/restrictions)
bro the f*** is wrong with conservatives in USA

I don't think Australia is culturally similar to the US at all outside of being a western liberal democracy.

Anglo settler colony with heavy immigration, quite young country, unique sports, at least an image of rugged individualism, large and relatively sparsely populated, no immediate threats on their borders, I’m sure there’s more as well
They seem quite similar to me as far as countries go
It would be Canada if not for Quebec, there’s an argument that Brazil is the most similar to the US in some extremely fundamental way as well, but that falls apart once you move to more complex phenomena

I don't think most of your list is particularly relevant to culture i.e. the nature and behaviour of the people.
despite shifting politically Australia's "day to day" culture is much more influenced by and similar to the English
you should have to point out gully, midwicket and third man on an oval to post in this thread
