I think thats in part because Trump generally just passed policies that most of the conservatives wanted... He never had a plan to actually enact many of the really terrible things he was for.... He was incompetent even though he was fascist in much of his rhetoric and positions that he supported... What happened January 6th could've been much worse if things were actually orchestrated.

You're glossing over the point though.... The difference isn't enough and we shouldn't be allied with them and probably should be sanctioning them, but is it still a meaningful impact? Yes... Would it happen if Trump was reelected? Obviously not.

still does not change the fact that dictatorial fascism is unlikely to come to the US simply because the system we have now is as friendly to corporate interests while maintaining the illusion of choice as you can get.

also does not change the fact that the idea that voting for progressives is not an avenue for change simply due to all the hoops one would have to jump through to justify it. fails on its own merits if you walk through it step by step. simply not enough out there to even make it worthwhile and half of the ones we got aren't s*** either
