You have internet activists that are militant level with the rhetoric as we’ve all seen.
My main issue is that when we look at things holistically they contribute to the system as much as everyone else. I’m not saying it’s easy at all btw to truly be self sacrificing in order to push for change but it just rings hollow
yea extremists always f*** it up for everybody
authenticity is interesting because with the internet I think people are still learning how to support causes and affect changes. for some people that could mean organizing protests, lobbying, politicians, or raising money but others don't have the time, energy, or passion but still want to show support
of course there's performative self promotion in some of that support, but that behavior shouldn't be the conversation being had and it only distracts from addressing the problem at hand
like, "virtue signaling is bad". ok, agreed now what? because if you don't have ideas about how to address these meaningful and complicated problems then you're no different from the people hollowly supporting, only difference is you're criticizing them instead of the problem
