the welfare state in kerala is financed by keralites living in the gulf lol. like a third of their state income is from remittances alone (absurdly disproportionate), which doesn't even account for the interfamilial trade economy that migrants generate

theres a kind of subtle wealth inequality as a result, where families supported by migrant workers are more likely to have better housing, QOL, etc. and as a result of all of this, it comes as no surprise that their internal unemployment rate is pretty high

no hate to the democratic socialists though, they have their heart in the right place
