May 24, 2021·1 replyDxtrMy coursework isn't bad at all but I just find it annoying to do. So for this week we learned about Arrays to give you an idea. And I can get a certificate from completing this class and another class or so and I'll qualify for it.
But I don't think I'd need a programming language as I'm trying to get into the Cybersecurity field. Mostly just monitor, etc. but I think our careers are similar as you're monitoring networks and as I would do the same as well. I'll keep in contact with you though because I might need your expertise in the future. And how's it like working for that gig?
Yeah I feel you; I felt the same way at times doing my undergrad. Programming is beneficial but I couldn’t do it 8-10 hours a day for a living; I rather use it to automate tedious tasks and supplemental my workflow.
My current gig is a good start, but I definitely don’t want to stay for much longer than another year or so. The pay is mid for what I could be making and we need a true HelpDesk person to pick up tedious tickets. Going out and swapping I/O devices and doing PC replacements are cool, but you don’t learn nothing from it after doing it a couple times, and it just takes up valuable time when I’m trying to work on something more beneficial, but I’m the only in-house IT person so it falls on me.
The moral of the story is to make sure you find a place that has a good team; avoid places that have 1-2 IT people only, unless you that nigga.
Cyber-security is a great field and it’s currently hot in the market too; I recommend getting the Security+ cert as a good starting point. You’ll need it anyway if you plan on applying for government positions.
