Got a new president in February that Messi is cool with and they agreed on a new contract but they can't sign it because of FFP. Barca like a ton of other clubs had lost a ton of revenue last year due to covid and the FFP rules basically say your wage bill must be proportional to revenue. Barca already had an astronomically high wage bill precovid.
Word is La Liga won't let them register him next year until they offload a massive amount of wage (i.e., players)
The likelihood he leaves is almost nonexistent. I'd compare this to when Lebron was a free agent for like 20 days with the Cavs while they were figuring out their cap situation before he resigned with bird rights.
So basically y’all have to sell other players to keep him? Won’t that also weaken the squad and hinder y’all from competing?

no because we have so much damn deadweight from failed transfers and horrible contract renewals
Sergi Roberto, Coutinho, Umtiti, & Pjanic are not even close to being considered best 11 players yet they are paid as though they are world class
its difficult selling them, not because other teams dont want them, but because other teams wont pay their current wages or higher. So why would these players willingly take a pay cut?
Barca will probably end up having to pay a portion of their wages on a new team. Complete mismanagement
