Yes the NYPD budget is insanely high
Yes taxpayer money should be used on systemic issues such as poverty which in turn will reduce the amount of crime
And yes putting more police officers in subway stations with funding that wait for it, ALREADY EXISTS, would make public transportation even a tiny bit of a safer experience
This all or nothing ass approach is so f***in ridiculous and is why nothing ultimately ever changes
I think people see it as a potential net negative because to them the presence of police doesn’t cause increased safety but the potential for them to act out of bounds with next to no accountability when they f*** up. So to them it’s like, “we see over n over again cops don’t really walk how they talk, why would this be any different”
That’s how I’m seeing what they’re saying in here, aside from the snark and sarcasm
You acknowledge playing a violent video game is fun
Is it so far fetched to think some not well of mind would take that to reality
There's like a tiny correlation, and the effects long term are pretty much zero
The combination of easy access to weapons of death, a violent reinforcing culture and the isolation of individualism is to blame
In fact the video games argument is a strawman that pro gun activists use to draw attention AWAY from the gun control debate

and blaming the media for reporting on mass shootings instead of how accessible it is to commit a mass shooting
but theyre not and there is empirical evidence to the contrary
if parents let their kids play games that are not marketed towards kids how is that the fault of the game lmao
jack thompson ass argument
It’s the parents fault of course, but what I’m saying is that videogames are a factor.
You have a kid with violent tendencies, what’s better for him? playing basketball or playing MW2? of course a 11 year old kid shouldn’t be playing No Russian, but imagine he does and he realizes he is enjoying playing that mission.
I’m not saying everyone that plays no Russian will become a killer, but it could definitely trigger at least one persons brain
In fact the video games argument is a strawman that pro gun activists use to draw attention AWAY from the gun control debate
NYC has some of the strictest gun control in the country. How's that going
Video games don’t radicalize people but message boards and video platforms do
Even movies can create cults and support ideologies. It’s all social programming one way or another.
The combination of easy access to weapons of death, a violent reinforcing culture and the isolation of individualism is to blame

I understand what their point is, but frankly it’s ridiculous and something only someone who doesn’t live in NYC could possibly believe

Weren’t there like 1,000+ more subway cops added in the past year?
Comrade
Nah, comrade take is give people a reason to live through dignified labor and they prob won't be miserable and want to kill everyone
Nah, comrade take is give people a reason to live through dignified labor and they prob won't be miserable and want to kill everyone
Ofc it's alienation more broadly but the isolation of individualism is one that is more key to this specific issue
The combination of easy access to weapons of death, a violent reinforcing culture and the isolation of individualism is to blame
This is why Taxi Driver is my favorite movie
Weren’t there like 1,000+ more subway cops added in the past year?
Supposedly 250 but as someone who takes the train on a daily basis, I haven’t noticed even a slight difference. There’s 470+ stations, so not even one per station if it was actually the case.
The combination of easy access to weapons of death, a violent reinforcing culture and the isolation of individualism is to blame
I'm saying.
Weren’t there like 1,000+ more subway cops added in the past year?
They're too busy worrying about poor people hopping the turnstile
NYC has some of the strictest gun control in the country. How's that going
What does that have to do with video games
I understand what their point is, but frankly it’s ridiculous and something only someone who doesn’t live in NYC could possibly believe
Oh ok, cool. I’m not from nyc but as far as the thread goes i think insercoolnamehere lives there.
What makes you say, essentially, that if you’re from nyc you know that more police equals more safety (as far as train platforms go, so I don’t twist what you’re saying)? I’m trying to understand why that is for that city specifically, to you. Cus I understand how people trying to map their other geographically police experiences doesn’t really work well (people itt comparing places in Europe for example).
I can understand you saying platforms only as you have itt multiple times. I think people getting caught up on is that if we don’t have evidence of it working in that specific context, when they use the closest context of that in stations or on the streets in general…they have evidence that justifies a lack of faith.
Im all for tryin stuff but obvi I don’t live there jus visit do not my day to day.
They're too busy worrying about poor people hopping the turnstile
Facts lol

Laat 2 don't matter if you are mentally well.
How come we say Joker influences culture but video games dont
Video games have impacted sports, driving etc. video games may not increase violence but the knowledge of violence yes. The knowledge of weaponry 100%. Some kids first experience at a strip club was GTA. San Andreas exposed kids to gang culture. Etc etc.
The moment an individual can identify themselves within a character that’s the bridge to social programming. Personally, I don’t see video games having that deep of a character impact but like stated earlier, the exposure to ideas and such, yes video games do have an involvement in shaping certain aspects of life.
